Standups and Fighting from the Bottom Questions

I just watched Northcott vs Garcia again.  Ref Marc-Andre Cote  stood them up twice in the second round both times with Northcott on top and rather quickly – once from guard and once from 1/2.

This is the same ref who did not stand Doerksen and Miller up once from the ground.

It brings up a couple questions\comments:

1. How can a ref call for standup in the Northcott/Garcia bout but not call for a standup once in the Doerksen/Miller fight?  Refs need to be consistent.

2. If the ref thinks Doerksen is winning a round from his back using
short elbows, will he keep the fighters on the ground because he thinks
Doerksen had the advantage?

Good questions. Maybe he took heat from the commish after the Garcia – Northcott fight about it.

It shouldn't be based on if the ref thinks the bottom guy is winning though, it should be whether he's actively fighting. Who's winning shouldn't cross a refs mind.

Best named ref though, but boo on a shitty job in the Doerksen Miller fight.
