I've been asked by the promoters of Muay Thai Mayhem 3 to cover the event for them and since I don't have a proper place to post the coverage, this seems like the best place to do it. If there is enough interest perhaps in the future there could be a better place for local boxing and muay thai coverage… at the very least a Facebook Fan Page, but we'll just stick with this for now and see how it goes.
First things first, I received the fight lineup today and despite not knowing a lot about the muay thai scene I can honestly say just from the little bit of research and talking with the promoters, I am very very excited to see these fights. This is the highest level Muay Thai you're going to get to see live without making a trip to Thailand!
-Saiyok Pumpanmuang is regarded by many as one of the top 69kg thai fighters alongside the likes of Baukaw and currently holds Lumpinee Stadium 154lb title and is also the 147lb Champion of Thailand… Saiyok will be taking on Wilfried Montagne out of France in the main event!
-Nonsai Sor Sanyakorn is another top fighter out of the Windysport gym in Thailand, Nonsai is also a multiple title holder and will take on Daniel Kerr from New Zealand in the co-main event.
-Eddy Chang out of Frank Lee's will be taking on Oli McKiernan for the 140lbs Western Canadian Amateur Ttitle, both young prospects will be looking to keep their undefeated records intact.
-Derek Jolivette out of Arashi-do in Sherwood Park comes so highly regarded that the promoters had to go as far as Philadelphia to find someone willing to step into the ring with him, and Kingsley Opoku is the man who accepted the challenge.
-Vienna Malko-Monteross will be the other representative of Frank Lee's competing on Saturday night when she takes on Alyssa Goodridge from Cambridge, Ontario
-There are a few more local Alberta fighters on the card including Will Quijada from Arashido Red Deer who meets Daniel Kechego, also from Cambridge, and Brian Kong from Arashido South Edmonton, who recently made his MMA debut at Hard Knocks in October who will take on Vern Musqua from Prince George, BC in the opening bout of the evening!

What rules are they using? Any idea? Never know if it is 8 pt strikes, two hand clinch or one, can throw a guy, etc…
