Jason MacDonald was King of the Middleweights when Top MMA News ranked Middleweights back in early April, but a lot has happened since then:

  • MacDonald fought and lost via injury
  • Joe Doerksen won seven in a row beating Tom Lawlor before losing to CB Dollaway
  • Patrick Cote returned to the cage but lost twice.
  • Denis Kang won then drew with Paulo Filho
  • Jesse Bongfeldt got signed with the UFC

Well, when the top four Middleweights are so talented, the person winning at the time of the rankings seems to get top spot.  Unfortunately, three of the…

Nice to see Farmer included. Were his LHW tilts factored? I thought he only had 2 tilts at MW.

Curiously , Dana Dickeson is ranked above him at LHW and Farmer walked through him.

…me so confuuuuuuuuuused….

and what's with the 'comments off' deal on some of the news? jerkface posters? bigger jerkfaces than me?

Whoever would have won could have potentially taken top spot. This is a close list, and there is still room for improvement for all these guys. The future of 185 looks good as the new crop sneaks up the ranks.

good idea!

Still confused about the rankings though. Unless what i read was wrong, Dickeson's last HW fight was against Brown. It wasn't even close yet Brown doesn't make the LHW list and Dana does.

I'm stoked Brown is getting recognition at MW, but he only has like a coupla fights there.

To tell the truth, we mess up sometimes HB. We have huge lists of for each weight class of fighters and when they move up/down in weight,:

1) we didn't have a hard and fast rule on where to place them.  However, if they fought in the past year at a weight, they should be considered.

2) we mess up by cut/pasting from one weight class to another when we should copy/paste  OR correctly copy/pasting and forgetting to remove someone from their old weight class after the year is up.

At this point, Brown would not be considered a LHW fighter as he has no LHW fights in the past year.  However, the LHW list was made months ago and Brown should be on it.

As for "do his LHW fights count at MW?", yes they somewhat do.  Experience goes a long way in this sport and solid wins at a higher (or lower) weight count towards how good Top MMA News believes that fighter is.  You will see this reflected in our Bantamweight rankings where Denis has only 2 BW fights, Singh a couple, and future rankee Diego Wilson with only a couple as well.

Thanks for the clarification. I can imagine it can be a handful to sort out (look at the bantamweight madness the past while), but the effort is appreciated. If it gets people looking at guys that aren't regional and makes some match-ups happen, then it's all good.

Krahn was on the Out of the Top 10 list until he lost to Eliot Duff.

Bobby's rankings are the same.

RITC and AFC will definitely impact these rankings.
