I thought there was no amateur mma in Edmonton? Has this changed? That would be great for new fighters.

We have worked very hard over the last 6 months to get things in place. We have worked hand in hand with the ECSC, as well as many other people to get things done right. We feel there is a HUGE need for amateur MMA in Edmonton!!! There are so many pro shows here, and promoters are always looking for guys. There are way to many guys fighting pro that should not be (my opinion). This will give fighters a chance to find out if it is something they really want to get into.

This will be a combined amateur Muay Thai/MMA event. There will be two separate comittees, one being the Edmonton Amateur MMA Comission.

Good work lads, this is how true fans of the SPORT get things done. Not just fire up a "promotion" put on a bunch of "pro's" then flop.

In a few States, it is mandatory for mma athletes to compete in 5 amateur bouts before being licenced to fight pro. I like this idea.

This is great news for Edmonton MMA fighters and fans. Young fighters get a chance to experience first hand what it’s really like to get inside the ring/cage. Not only do they get a opportunity to learn and “develop” as actually fighters, they also get a chance to go in there and just have some fun. I think all fighters should have some sort of amateur experience before going pro. A grappling tournament at the very least, seriously!. That’s how it works with all the other sports, why should it be any different here?
Amateur MMA in Edmonton also means we can weed out all the shit fighters that are overflowing the our ‘pro’ leagues. It’s embarrassing sometimes and this is just a start at cleaning up the stains that some of our  promotions have left behind. Edmonton MMA will gain more fans, possibly even some more (MMA)educated fans. In return, we give them better fighters and better shows. Nobody loses with this.

I would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this happen. Frank lee’s and who ever else. I don’t know who else is responsible,  but it's about dam time! Thank you.
