Remember Gardner in the 2000 Olympics?  He beat Karelin who was undefeated in over 13 years for the gold medal and also was on PRIDE once.  Now he weights 473 pounds and will be on the Biggest Loser.

Rumor is that Gina Carano will be coaching on the upcoming season too! I just may watch this season!

He didn't "beat" Karelin.  He was awarded a penalty point when Karelin broke his own grip and then Gardner ran away for the rest of the match.  How he wasn't penalized for not engaging was unbelievable.  The officiating was a joke in that match.

Incredible to hear he got up to 473 Lbs.

A win is a win though No?

Not sure if it was more lame or more boring though.

Do they still have the same rules in place?

A former elite athlete will be able to lose blind-blowing amounts of weight.

Especially a wrestler, but would a super heavyweight wrestler be better or worse at cutting weight?

I think the perception would be that he can drop a lot of weight because he's a former olympic athlete. The other contestants will give him the boot asap.

Yeah, kinda. The two people who drop the lowest percentage of weight that week are up for elimination by majority vote.

what a dope he is for letting himself get to that weight. The fact that he has an understanding of training and nutrition makes it even worse.

Actually caught this week's episode.  Gardner lost 17 pounds in a week.  No Carano though.

There are still some mystery coaches on the other team that haven't been revealed yet… and Rulon lost 41 pounds the first week, I think he has a good shot at winning the show!

I read an article on this guy in Sports Illustrated a while back.  He has a pretty phenomenal story since that gold medal.  Lost some of his toes to frost bite in a crazy adventure.

I would imagine that pushing yourself to lose all that weight would be even more draining mentally than physically.  Rulon should be able to excel in this regard as I think wrestlers are some of the most mentally tough individuals in the world.
