Canadian MMA Rumour Mill – July 23, 2019

UFC 240 goes down this weekend in Edmonton, Alberta. With 8 Canadians on the card this one is a must watch. The #1 Heavyweight in Canada, Tanner Boser kicks off the card followed by Gillian Robertson, Gavin Tucker, Hakeem Dawodu, Alexis Davis, Marc-Andre Barriault, Olivier Aubin-Mercier and Felicia Spencer. Main card is on PPV at 10pm et, prelims on TSN5 at 8pm et and early prelims on UFC Fight Pass at 6:15pm et.

…and now for the rumours!

  • For whatever reason Teddy Ash didn’t get a shot on UFC 240 in his current city of Edmonton buuuuut Ash did get the call to compete for a UFC contract on the Dana White Contender Series this summer. Ash will take on undefeated Serbian prospect Dusko Todorovic on August 27 in Las Vegas.
  • With Ash focusing all his efforts into getting a UFC contract he has vacated birth his Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight titles, we already know KB Bhullar and Matt Dwyer will clash for the Middleweight bout and now we’re hearing that a Light-Heavyweight Title fight is in the works between Graham Park and Steven MacDonald for Unified 38.
  • Word on the street is undefeated Heavyweight Dustin Joynson will also be on the August 27th edition of Dana White’s Contender Series, Joynson will have to go through Aussie striker Ben Sosoli to earn that UFC contract.
  • With Sarah Kaufman‘s opponent missing weight at the most recent PFL show she was awarded three points and claimed the #1 seed in the Women’s Lightweight Tournament! Kaufman will now face Larissa Pacheco in the semi-finals on October 11.
  • UFC Vancouver finally has another Canadian on the card as unbeaten Cole Smith returns to the Octagon to take on undefeated newcomer Miles Johns. Somebody’s 0 must go!
  • Neither is Canadian, but no one should be disappointed with the announcement that Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje will headline UFC Fight Night 158 in Vancouver this September.

  • Saied Mirzaei has replaced injured Michael Hill and will fight for the Rise FC Welterweight Title against Nicolae Cury at RFC 4
  • Battlefield Fight League 63 goes down September 21 in Coquitlam, BC and will see Dejan Kajic and Achilles Estremadura defend their Super Welterweight and Lightweight titles respectively. Ash Mashreghi will also return to action looking to get back in the win column.
  • Congrats to Ottawa’s Jeff Chan who signed a multi-fight deal with ONE Championship making him the 6th Canadian on their roster, three of whom hold titles including Bibiano Fernandes, Angela Lee and Christian Lee.

Thanks for the rumours. It’s too bad they didnt give Josh Hill the fight against Cole Smith. Would be a great canadian Bantamweight fight in Canada and Josh deserves it.

Also early prelims start at 6:30pm et not 415pm.

    Well-loved! Thumb up 9 Thumb down 0
