XFFC 20 – Live Results and Play-by-Play


Xcessive Force Fighting Championship holds their 20th event tonight from the Entrec Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Unfortunately due to incomplete medicals Devon Neis is out of the Light-Heavyweight Title fight against Steven MacDonald. The Craig Hudson vs. Justin Doege Heavyweight Title fight will take over as the main event.

Round 1: The 44 year old Hudson stares across the cage intently at his 25 year old opponent and we’re ready to get underway. Doege opens with a leg kick and Hudson looking to land bombs. Doege with another leg kick and Hudson with a low leg kick and just avoids a combo from Doege. Doege shoots for the double and passes quickly to mount. Hudson looking to push off but Doege looking to take advantage and working for the arm-triangle. Hudson able to survive and Doege gives it up. Hudson turns over and Doege unleashes a barrage of punches and Hudson covering up. Hudson tries to roll out but Doege flattens him right back out and continues his barrage and forces referee Kyle Cardinal to step in.

Pro/185lbs- Cassian Alexy (4-3) vs. Lee Hagel (1-2)
Round 1: Alexy with a couple hard leg kicks to start and rushes forward with a takedown but Hagel sinks in a deep high elbow guillotine. Hagel rolls him over and Alexy is sleeping.

Pro/170lbs- Conrad Krzysztan (3-3) vs. Thomas Richardson (5-1)
Round 1: Krzysztan with an inside leg kick to start the action and a body kick from Richardson is met with a straight right that back Richardson up. Krzysztan with the spinning back kick but Richardson eats in and wraps him up in a guillotine and uses it to control him against the cage. Richardson trips him to the mat and right into full mount where he starts to rain down some heavy leather. Huge elbows from Richardson and fires away massive punches and elbows. Krzysztan doing just enough to avoid the stoppage but Richardson is relentless, throwing everything into his shots and busts Krzysztan wide open with a huge elbow. Conrad covers up and turns over and Kyle Cardinal stops the bout.

Pro/145lbs- Daryl St. Rose (3-1) vs. Blake Sigvaldason (1-1)
Round 1: Sigvaldason with a flying kick off the bat and St. Rose sidesteps it. Sigvaldason with a right and an inside leg kick. Sigvaldason shoots for a takedown but St. Rose defends and presses him up against the cage. St. Rose drops for the single and drags him to the mat. St. Rose working to take the back but Sigvaldason stands and drops forward to try to shuck him off. St. Rose escapes out the back and pounces on top. Sigvaldason postures and eats an upkick before coming back down to full guard. St. Rose in turtle and Sigvaldason knees the body before St. Rose is able to get back to his feet. Sigvaldason takes him back down settles into the guard and lands a chipping shot. St. Rose controlling the posture and Sigvaldason not able to get off many shots. St. Rose working for a kimura sweep but can’t get him off and Sigvaldason stands a drops a bomb that doesn’t quite connect before the end of the round. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 St. Rose

Round 2: Sigvaldason ducks a shot and gets the takedown and passes to half-guard. Sigvaldason with some little shoulder strikes and boxes the ear. St. Rose shifting for the kimura and lands a nice elbow from the bottom. Sigvaldason covering the nose and mouth trying to disrupt the breathing. St. Rose still working towards a sweep but can’t get out from underneath Sigvaldason who transitions to the back and sinks his hooks. Sigvaldason is able to slide the arm under the chin and puts on the squeeze to get the tap.

Am/145lbs- Isaiah Metituk (4-3) vs. Connor Krebs (2-1)
Round 1: Krebs with a glove touch but a quick crescent kick. Metituk looks for the takedown and Krebs grabs the cage to prevent the takedown and Kyle Cardinal is going to take a point. Krebs with a leg kick and Metituk again looks for a takdown and gets him to the mat but Krebs sweeps to top position. Metituk looking for the triangle and Krebs postures up and rains down shots and a headbutt lands from Krebs. Cardinal says it’s unintentional and they restart on the feet. Metituk looks for the takedown and gets caught in the guillotine but passes to side control and Krebs still hanging on. Metituk locks in a d’arce choke and it looks deep but Krebs is able to survive, pull his head free and get back to his feet. Metituk however is like a dog on a bone and sinks the arm in guillotine choke. Metituk pulls guard, hips in and is able to coax the tap from his rival.

Am/135lbs- Amanda Rogers (0-0) vs. Maria Djukic (0-0)
Round 1: Djukic opens with a leg kick and Rogers with a combo met with another leg kick. The ladies exchange shots and Djukic slips to the mat but back rolls and gets back to her feet. Djukic with another leg kick and landing combos. A stiff left connects from Djukic and she lands another. Djukic with the vicious leg kicks to the inside and outside and Djukic connects with a hard right. Rogers comes back with a combo and is again met with a leg kick. Djukic lands an overhand right and Rogers with a shot. Djukic lands a combo and Rogers comes right back at her before time expires. These do not look like debut amateurs. Round 2: Rogers leg showing the effects of Djukic’s leg kicks and Djukic lands again before both ladies exchange heavy fire. Djukic continues to land the leg kicks and a couple straight right and Rogers with a big combo. Rogers with a big kick landed and Djukic counters with a shot. Teep from Rogers and Djukic slowing down a bit but lands another hard leg kick. Djukic with a combo and another hard left and Rogers comes right back at her with some shots. Djukic with a left and they trade leg kicks. Rogers landing against the cage and they hear the ten second warning and exchange a couple more shots. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Rogers

Round 3: Djukic lands right off the bat and both ladies trading shots. They clash with leg kicks and Djukic catches one. Rogers throws a knee and it lands on the head which is not legal in amateur action. A pause in the action for the doctor to check on Djukic but the shot didn’t land hard. Referee Luke Boutin takes a point from Rogers and they restart. Both ladies trading leg kicks and Rogers begins tagging Djukic. Rogers with the thai clinch and lands some uppercuts. Djukic bloodied and Roger pressing the action. They trade straight punches and Rogers keeps walking her down. Rogers lands some knees to the body on the cage and lands to the thigh. Djukic wincing as Roger is landing but Rogers may need a finish to avoid the draw. Am/155lbs- Joe Westbrook (1-3) vs. Brody Zariwny (0-3)
Round 1: Both men cautious to start until Westbrook fires off a combo. Westbrook with another quick flurry against the cage and Zariwny tries to fire back. Westbrook continues to land combos and Zariwny lands one of his own. Leg kick for Westbrook and a thudding follow up lands. Both men tie up and Zariwny connects with a solid knee and he presses Westbrook into the cage and lands some chipping shots. Zariwny steps off and lands a nice combo at the end of the round. Round 2: Zariwny looks to land first and Westbrook lands a leg kick Zariwny lands a left and Westbrook shoots for the takedown but Zariwny is able to wrestle back up against the cage. Westbrook is able to get him back to the mat and settles into full guard. Westbrook works the body and Zariwny looking for an arm-triangle from the bottom. Westbrook is able to pass to full mount and get out of trouble. Westbrook working for keylock but Zariwny is able to stay strong and free his arm. Zariwny abandons it and lands a couple shots in the dying seconds. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Westbrook

Round 3: Glove touch and Zariwny opens the round with a solid right. Westbrook ducks under a shot and looks for the single. Switches to a double and back to the single as Zariwny lands to the body. Zarwiny is able to quicky climb to the back and sink a rear-naked choke. Westbrook is able to stay composed and shake Zariwny off and works to full mount. Westbrook trying to get the keylock again but lets go and lands. Westbrook very high mount and landing shots. Westbrook continues to fire away for the final 10 seconds and puts an exclamation mark on a dominant performance. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Westbrook
Joe Westbrook defeats Brody Zariwny by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Am/205lbs- Austin Smith (0-0) vs. Andrew Hanson (0-0)
Round 1: Both men feeling each other out and a couple leg kicks by Hanson and a hard body kick lands. Smith with a couple wild bombs. Smith continues with the big winging punches and Hanson’s low kick lands on the cup. A timeout is called and Smith takes a minutes. On the restart another leg kick by Hanson and Smith comes back with one. Hanson presses him against the cage and they jockey for position and trade knees. Smith lands a knee to the body and Hanson answers back but doesn’t get all of it. They continue to battle for position against the cage and Hanson connects with a big shot just before the bell. Round 2: Smith opens the second round with a leg kick and Hanson gives him one back. They clash with leg kicks and Hanson goes to the body. Hanson slips blocking a kick but pops back to his feet. Hanson with a combo and ducks under a Smith combo for a double. Smith is able to stay on his feet and they tie up against the cage and jockey for position. Smith chipping away with knees and controlling him against the cage. Hanson trying to battle his way off the cage but Smith able to spin him right back to the cage. Hanson finally able to reverse positions but only seconds left in the round. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Smith

Round 3: Smith with a leg kick and Hanson responds. They trade a few more and wing some wild punches at each other. Hanson with some kicks to the body and goes down to the legs. Hanson shoots in for a slow takedown and Smith easily defends. Hanson caught in a guillotine but doesn’t appear to be in trouble. Smith switches the grip but Hanson pops his head out. They battle for position against the cage and Smith presses him against the cage again. Hanson trying to land shots but Smith keeping him close. They break apart and Smith throws the world’s slowest wheel kick, it connects but no power behind it and Smith comes forward with a combo as the fight comes to an end.     Incomplete medicals? Blows my mind this still happens. Fighters know weeks or months in advance, what medicals are required.

    Neis also fought less than a month ago so you think they’d still be up to date… Bummed for MacDonald losing two opponents in the last couple weeks!
