Canadian MMA Rumour Mill – October 2, 2018

I know it’s not Canadian MMA but… It’s fight week! UFC 229 goes down this week. Conor McGregor will finally return to the cage against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Who’s going home with the Lightweight Title?

…and now for the Rumours!

  • TUF 27: Undefeated Bantamweight winner Brad Katona will return at UFC 231 in Toronto. Katona will face Matthew Lopez in his first bout since being awarded his UFC contract. Eryk Anders has also stepped in to take on Elias Theodoru on the same card
  • A surprise signing by Professional Fighters League as Jeremy Kennedy has been added to the PFL 8 card and will take on Marcos Galvao in a Featherweight alternate bout… I don’t like to hope for an injury but it would be great to see JBC get into a playoff slot and get a shot at the $1,000,000 grand prize!
  • Rumble in the Cage has been turning back the clocks with a few fighters returning from extended layoffs and RITC 60 will continue that trend as UFC veteran Jesse Bongfeldt returns to take on Micah Brakefield in the main event. We’ll also see long time staples and newly minted BJJ brown belts Spencer Rohovie and Tim Tamaki on the card.

  • Cole Smith is set to headline Battlefield Fight League 58 on November 17 in Coquitlam. Smith will be defending the Bantamweight Title against an opponent to be named. Some other names rumored for the card will be Middleweight Champion Dejan Kajic, Dustin Joynson and Caio Machado.
  • Louie Sanoudakis improved to 7-1 a couple weeks ago when he handed Nawras Abzakh his first career loss via Unanimous Decision at Brave CF 16.
  • We’re hearing some rumblings that we’ll be seeing the return of a couple former champions out of British Columbia. Sabah Fadai and Paul Cheng both looking to come out of retirement sometime in the near future.
  • Manny Alfaro will head to Southgate, Michigan on on November 9 for WXC 74. Alfaro will take on Mike Johnson in a Bantamweight contest.
