Canadian MMA Rumour Mill – December 12, 2017

Top MMA News would like to extend our deepest condolences to our colleague James Beattie and his family for the unexpected passing of his son late last month.

…here are the rumors!

  • Some huge news as Edmonton City Council has enacted a 1 year moratorium on all combative sports in Edmonton. This has caused quite an uproar among the local combative sports community as it has halted the Unified MMA card that was supposed to take place this Friday.
  • The community was very outspoken in their disappointment in the short notice cancellation of an event that has been in the works for month. This prompted Mayor Don Iveson to state that they “may find a way to accommodate those events that were planned. On an exception basis, council or the commission could grant licenses.” A decision is expected later today on whether or not Unified MMA 33 will be allowed to go forward as planned.
  • Georges St. Pierre recently announced that he has been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and subsequently relinquished his Middleweight Title, Robert Whittaker has been elevated to undisputed champion and will defend against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 in Australia.
  • Former women’s Bantamweight queen Sarah Kaufman has signed a contract with Invicta FC and is set to headline Invicta FC 27 on January 13 against an opponent to be named.
  • Fresh off a big win at RITC 53, Jared Kilkenny is looking to keep his comeback rolling and has called out newly minted Havoc Heavyweight Champion Dustin Joynson.

  • TKO 41 went down this past weekend and crowned 5 new champions. One of those new minted champs Jesse Arnett was met by Xavier Alaoui after his fight, could this potentially be the next Bantamweight title match up?
  • Another interesting TKO tidbit, Stephane Patry recently said during an interview that he would like to bring TKO to London, Ontario and have it be headlined by Chris Horodecki versus Ivan Menjivar.
  • Gabe Sagman will once again head overseas to fight in Romania on December 18 for RXF 29 when he takes on Ciprian Mariș. Sagman is 2-0 under the RXF banner with a pair of first round submission victories!
  • Shout out to Ryan Ford who traveled to Russia and took on the WBA #5 and WBC #11 ranked Super Middleweight in the world Fedor Chudinov. Ford ultimately dropped a 12 round decision (119-110, 117-111, 116-112) but showed that he is able to hang with the world’s elite boxers! Ford opened up a big cut on Chudinov and was  reportedly never in danger of being stopped.

I am very interested in news about the third party investigation into the passing of Tim Hague . I love watching fighting , however it’s not a safe sport , not a high paying sport and I believe a regulatory body or commission should have to do everything in their power to keep a fighter safe . If banning fighting for 1 year in Edmonton can educate commissions and save fighters lives in North America for the future to come , then it well worth the cause ! I don’t have the answers or solutions . With team work of fans , fighters , doctors , promoters sports reporters and teachers etc… mabey theirs hope of a real Non Corrupt Hard Nosed No Bullshit commission that could be the catalyst or Mold of a new era !
It’s very sad to see and hear about Tim passing away , and i hope it doesn’t unnecessarily happen to any fighter in any city .

They dont need to ban fighting, they need to get rid of the people on the commission who allowed this fight to take place. Maybe bring in some people who actually know something about the sport. Whoever signed off and let Tim fight should have been fired 3 months ago. They didnt do there job.

Josh Hill has also recently torn his pectoralis major completely off the arm from the trunk and will be out of the Fight Nights Global Bantamweight Championship bought in February against Title Holder Tomas Deak. Hopefully a speedy and healthy recovery will allow him another chance at that belt in the middle of 2018.

Rumor has it the UFC Gym franchises in the Edmonton area are failing

The Sherwood Park location has already closed and numerous Coaches and staff from the North location have been fired or quite

Apparently UFC Gym North is totally shady and corrupt with some really disgusting things happening there which prompted Shane Campbell to quit, good on Shane.

This not suprising at all, one of the Coaches there (I wont name names because the Admin’s will delete it anyways) seems think its ok to attempt to “date” girls under the age of 18 when he is in his late 20’s. And we all know what i mean by “date”. Disgusting

This is just the tip of the iceberg at this dirty place. I know because I used to be a member there. Scumbag staff and coaches

TKO in london would be awesome however i think guys like jesse ronson and tj laramie would be a better fit for main event. Menjivar vs Horodecki might put a few asses in the seats but giving the champs a chance to defend in there hometown would be bigger for the real fans and quite frankly i believe the bodysnatcher could sell out any london venue

No one cares about Josh Hill. Jesse Arnett runs the bantamweight division. He finishes fights. Hill makes ppl fall asleep via boredom.
