Normally when someone is looking for a fight they don’t have to fly half way across the world to do so but Chris Kelades has done just that. The Nova Scotia native announced yesterday via social media that he has signed a multi-fight contract with M1 Global. The former UFC fighter will join the Russian Promotion newly minted Flyweight division and will become the 4th Canadian to fight for the promotion and he couldn’t be any happier with the news.

“It has been a long time coming,” says Kelades.

“We have actually been trying to work out a deal for a while with different promotions, most of them being in overseas and a few of them in Russia. They just opened their division in M-1 in flyweight so it was a good opportunity. I am not too crazy about the long traveling, but I am excited for the experience and for the opportunity to go to other countries, travel and I get to do what I love at the same time.”

Since getting cut by the UFC in 2016 it was hard for The Greek Assassin to find fights. With things being quiet on the local scene, Kelades signed with Relentless Sports Management (who were a big part of getting the deal signed) to help him find a few more fights before the 36-year-old decides to hang up the gloves.

Since then Kelades has gone 2-0, most recently picking up a unanimous decision victory over Keegan Oliver at Z Promotions-Fight-Medicine Hat 4 in September. He has compiled 11-3 record in his MMA career including going 2-2 in the UFC. His biggest win with the promotion was a unanimous decision win over Patrick Holohan on four days’ notice at UFC Fight Night 54 in Halifax in October of 2014 where he picked up the fight of the night bonus.

Kelades does currently have his 1st fight signed with the promotion but told Top MMA News he couldn’t discuss the details at this time so keep an eye in our rumor mill for future details
