Canadian MMA Rumour Mill – August 14, 2017

By:

Well pen has finally been put to paper… GSP has signed his bout agreement to face Michael Bisping for the UFC Middleweight Title at UFC 219 in New York City in November! What do you think fans? Can GSP regain his old form and climb back to the top of the MMA world?

…and now on to the Rumours!

  • The Unified MMA 32 card is now complete with a few more additions including Michael Hay taking on Corey Gower. Perhaps the winner in that bout could make a stong case for Unified to add a Bantamweight Title to the mix.
  • Speaking of Unified, their annual Christmas event is set for December 15 and it sounds like they will be venturing outside of Edmonton for the first time ever in the spring of 2018… more on that soon!
  • TKO 40 continues to add to their stacked card coming up in September with the fourth and final “main event” of the card as Strahinja Gavrilovic takes on Maiquel Falcao in Middleweight action.

  • Canada’s longest running MMA promotion Rumble in the Cage is back for show #55 on September 30 in Lethbridge. In the main event Derek Boyle meets Matt Krayco in a Welterweight matchup and in the co-main event Bantamweights Noah Ali and Joaquim Calderon will scrap. Also on the card is promising Welterweight prospect Forrest Cable taking on undefeated American Elijah Wynter.
  • Vancouver’s Dejan Kajic will look to get back in the win column when he travels down to Montana to take on Bellator veteran Tim Welch at Intense Championship Fighting 28 next weekend.
  • Elite 1’s next card is November 4 in Moncton, New Brunswick and the first bout we’re hearing for the card is a spectacular amateur bout that will see Jerico MacPhee put his undefeated 7-0 record and his Lightweight Title on the line against undefeated challenger Josh MacKenzie! Also on the card will be a Pro Bantamweight Title fight between Morgan Rhynes and Adam MacDougall.
  • Toronto’s Melissa Karagianis captured the KOTC Women’s World Atomweight Title this past weekend with a Unanimous Decision victory over Andy Nguyen.
  • Ryan Ford (12-0, 7 KO’s) takes on Anthony Yarde (12-0, 11 KO’s for the WBO Intercontinental Light-Heavyweight Title September 16 in London, England.

UFC trainer and professional fighter Mike Mannara is taking to the cage for his 3rd professional fight. And it’s a big one it’s the first fight that isn’t against someone with a losing record. His last two opponents had a combined professional record of 0-5 when they fought and he’s stepping it up to a 1-1 guy

Cody Krahn 15-12 ( lost his last 3 mma fights also has lost kickboxing and boxing fights)

    The UFC trainers
Parwez Ghulam 6-3 ( lost his last MMA and Boxing fight
Nick Hrabec is 4-4 ( lost his last 2 fights)

are going to get these world class fighters ready like their other young stars have been putting in work

    Damian “Top Knot” Johnston 3-1
All 3 of his wins vs opponents making their professional debut he has not beat a person with a professional MMA win

Greg Yong – 1-0 defeating a guy at was 0-7 going into that fight

LOL i’m suprised Lupe hasnt jumped in and started defending all his bro’s from UFC gym

Most of the UFC Gym trainers are the kings of crushing cans, especially Parwez. After his proud 5 second bodyshot KO of WORTHY opponent Shadey Yellowbird, he tried to box a real boxer, got knocked out and prolly will never fight a legit boxer again

Mike Moshin or whatever the hell he calls himself crushes cans via roid rage (which he openly admits to doing)

I dont think Krahn teaches at UFC gym but Cody is always willing to fight tough guys. Respect.

Look for Hrabec to crush a can to get back on the winning track the next Unified show.

UFC gym aint shit, with the exception of Shaolin who puts in the real work at other places, just a job for him.

Snakepit, Hayabusa, Shintani’s crew at Kingdome, all better than UFC gym

Some valid points, but what about Jared McComb? Unified lhw champ, fights tough guys too

    Well-loved! Thumb up 10 Thumb down 2

  4. whowillwin says:

Jared McComb 9-4-1 if you look at his record it’s decent. 14 fights vs 13 opponents 64% win record However when you look at his opponents you see a different picture the title he won. He defeated a guy that is 3-7 since 2013 and is 1-4 in his last 5 fights

The opponent before that also had a decent record however he lost the last 4 fights in a row and is 2-6 in his last 8 fights going back to Sept 2011

Those were 2 of his biggest wins and arguably the best guy he beat is now his team mate in Chase Degenhardt

He also isn’t an active fighter having fought just 2 times going back to end of 2014 ( 3 times if you include his charity boxing match )

He lost a charity boxing match in 2016 but they don’t go on official records but if you include the losing boxing match he was 1-2 going into his title fight

“He lost a charity boxing match in 2016 but they don’t go on official records.”

This is a bit of a concern isn’t it? Also by Edmonton’s own rules is Cody on suspension due to his recent loses?

    Rumour mill.

Openly used in his twenties** now helps fighters from all gyms practice safe PED use with aninimoty when they come to train without posting pictures in our facility.

Ufc gym has an open door no politics policy and we wish all competitors from all gyms a safe camp and good luck on fight day.

  10. Donald Duck says:

What’s sad is that ECSC is probably sitting in a room right now flipping a coin with “Blame Tim” and “Blame Someone else” on it trying to decide which response will illicit the least amount of public backlash and thus protect their jobs.

I mean if I was making 6 figures a year plus expenses like Pat I’d be trying to protect that too.

  11. Darren Apels says:

So I am gonna tell you a little story about KO BOXING. I was gonna do some boxing couple years ago. Called this woman who works for them. She kept saying oh we can’t find you anyone blah blah blah. One day I called back she said ya I got you a fight with STAN. I said cool send the contract. Get the contract and it was horrible!!! Not only that it just had a name called STAN. I had no experience and they wanted me to fight a 6’10 guy STAN who had a lot more than me. I said fuck that and moved on. But these promoters don’t give a fuck about the fighter. They just want to make money!! This is why tim hague died!! They could have picked anyone else but didn’t. Cause it would have cost KO BOXING money!! It always been like this but this time someone died cause of it. Nothing will change unless fighters get some balls and stand up for themselves. And think about your health than fighting in some conference centre for a couple grand maybe.

  12. Donald Duck says:

Honestly man the most of promoters are shifty. They have one powerful motivator – MONEY. As soon as it looks like a card is on the ropes a lot (not all) will bend to put fights on the card.

That’s why commissions exist. They’re the gate to prevent money from trumping fighter safety.

Anyone hear news bout an ACB show coming to Canada on Oct 21st??

  14. Marc-Andre Drolet says:

Sadly commissions have been putting profit over safety and bowing down to promoters

It’s a sad state and they should have to change their mission statement to include Profit > Safety and Regulation
