Rama to Face Markes at Inaugural PFL Event
The Professional Fighters League, formerly known as World Series of Fighting, announced that they will holding their debut event at the Daytona International Speedway on June 30th.
On the card, Calgary’s Smealinho Rama (10-2) will take on Ronny Markes (16-5). The Light-Heavyweight fight will be the semi-main event.
Rama, Canada’s perennial #1 Heavyweight, moved down to 205 to face Jake Heun at WSOF 34. “The Prince” finished Heun in the second round of their bout.
Markes, who was 3-2 in the UFC, lost his most recent fight in the M-1 Challenge against Viktor Nemkov. Markes, who is 2-2 since leaving the UFC, also won in February against Tony Lopez.
The PFL card will be headlined by Jon Fitch and Brian Foster. It will also feature Joao Zeferino versus Herman Terrado, as well as Caros Fodor vs Jason High.
Starting in 2018, PFL will act as a league with wins helping fighters qualify for the playoffs and, ultimately, the league championship at their weight class.
