Gagnon Meets Johns at UFC Fight Night 113

Who need match makers when fighters can just take to Twitter and make the fights they want themselves? That’s exactly what happened here, as mentioned in this week’s Gossip Queen Mitch Gagnon and Brett Johns had a friendly back and fourth on Twitter well the UFC brass took notice and made the bout official for UFC Fight Night 113.

Gagnon will look to right the ship as he enters this bout on the heels of a two fight losing skid. “The Machine” entered the UFC in 2012 in a game albeit losing effort to Bryan Caraway. He quickly founded his Octagon footing as he racked up 4 wins in a row over the likes of Walel Watson, Dustin Kimura, Tim Gorman and Roman Salazar. Those wins made the match makers take notice and Gagnon was tasked with welcome former champion Renan Barao back to the cage after his title loss to TJ Dillashaw, unfortunately Gagnon was finished late in the third round. After an almost two year injury layoff Gagnon returned at UFC 206 but the ring rust was too much as he dropped a close decision to Matthew Lopez. Now fully healed and with ring time in the last 12 months he will look to hand Johns his first professional loss.

Johns a native Welshman is a former Cage Warriors and Titan FC Bantamweight champion in fact he was never actually defeated for either he just vacated as he moved on with his career. He made his UFC debut this past November handing Kwan Ho Kwak his first professional loss while keeping his own record unblemished. This bout with Gagnon may be Johns’ toughest test to date but he does hold notable wins over the likes of Walel Watson, Anthony Gutierrez and European mainstay James Brum.

UFC Fight Night 113 goes down July 16th from the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow,Scotland. The card features fellow Canadian Ryan Janes who takes on Jack Marshman also a Light Heavyweight match up between Paul Craig and Khalil Rountree.
