Hard Knocks 54 – Live Results and Play-by-Play

Hard Knocks 54 goes down live tonight from the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, Alberta. In the main event Jesse “Big Cat” Arnett moves up a weight class and takes on late notice opponent Maged Hammo for the Featherweight Title.

The main card will air live on The Fight Network in Canada and the entire card is available on Internet PPV HERE. Top MMA News will be there cageside and will be bringing you all the live results.

Pro/145lbs- Jesse Arnett (11-4) vs. Maged Hammo (8-4-1)

Round 1: Arnett connects and shoots for a single and eventually is able to get him to the mat in side control. Arnett looks for a d’arce choke but Hammo works back to his feet and looks for the guilootine but Arnet pills his head free. Arnett connects and lands a head kick before getting the takedown to side control. Arnett lands an elbow and Arnett works for another choke before letting go and landing. Arnett sinks a d’arce choke but Hammo defends well. Arnett releases and works around to the back. Hammo fires elbows back toward Arnett and turns briefly caught in a guillotine. Arnett stands and Hammo fires a couple upkicks. Arnett back down to side control. Arnett lands but Hammo is covering up. Arnett looking for the guillotine but lands a knee to head as Hammo is still down and referee Andy Social pauses the action. On the restart Arnett connects and Hammo lands a knee to the body and they trade a couple more in the dying seconds. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Arnett

Round 2: Hammo with a head kick partially blocked and another. Arnett lands a right and comes forward with a combo. Arnett with an uppercut and a combo against the cage. Arnett looks to land and Hammo catches him with a right and briefly stuns Arnetyty. Arnett lands a coiuple knees to the body and follows up with body shots. Arnett with a head kick and drags him to the mat. Arnett looking for the d’arce again. Hammo works to stand but Arnett stays heavy and lands a couple elbows. Hammo with a high guard looking for a gogoplata but has no counter pressure behind the head. Arnett back on top looking for the d’arce. Hammo again defending well but Arnett re-adjusts and sinks the choke forcing the tap and Arnett is Canada’s double Champ!

Adv. Amateur/155lbs- Sean Michaels (2-1) vs. Joe Mapanda (3-2)
***Amateur Lightweight Title Fight (Vacant)
Round 1: Mapanda rushes forward and lands a leg kick. Michaels comes back with one of his own and lands an uppercut as Mapanda comes forward. Mapanda with a nice combo and a thudding leg kick. Mapanda with another combo and more chopping leg kicks. Michaels gets poked in the eye and a pause in the action. On the restart Both men connect and Michaels lands a left followed by a huge right that puts Mapanda out cold.

***Michaels captures Amateur Lightweight Title

Pro/170lbs- Peter Grajcar (3-0) vs. Vyron Phillips (6-3)
Round 1: Grajcar opens with a head kick but doesn’t put much on it and follows up with a kick to the body. Phillips lands a leg kick and Grajcar with a combo and a shot and gets him to the mat briefly. Phillips wall walks back to his feet and they jockey for position. They separate, Grajcar lands a knee to the head and trade shots. They again tie up against the cage and Phillips lands knees to the thigh. Grajcar with a knee to the mid-section and Grajcar kicks to the body and Phillips responds with a combo. Grajcar with a side kick to the body and connects with a right. Grajcar with a leg kick and a right and Phillips with a leg kick. Grajcar working for a single against the cage but Phillips defends and they separate. Both men land leg kicks and Grajcar connects and shoot for a takedown but Phillips defends. They scramble and Phillips looks to take the back but Grajcar gets back up. Round 2: Phillips pawing with the jab looking for his range and lands a right counter off the leg kick. Grajcar with a kick to the body and Phillips with a leg kick. Grajcar with a punch to the body and Phillips looks to land a right. They trade inside leg kicks and a high kick from Grajcar followed with a right. Grajcar another leg kick and Phillips looks to respond but can’t find the distance. Grajcar lands a knee that knocks Phillips down, Phillips leg gets caught underneath him and he suffers an ankle injury. Phillips does not want the fight to stop and Grajcar apologizes profusely to Phillips who says it’s not his fault. Phillips is distraught as the doctors enter to tend to his ankle and Grajcar looks on with concern. Phillips ankle is placed in a splint and he’s stretchered out of the arena.

Pro/125lbs- Keegan Oliver (4-5) vs. Terrance Chan (3-0)
Round 1: Both men trade and Oliver shoots and gets to guard and lands before settling into guard. Oliver very active on top and Chan works back to his feet but eats a couple knees. Chan muscles him back to the mat and has north/south with Oliver on all fours and lands a knee to the head that referee Andy Social doesn’t see. Oliver reverses and gets on top looking for the guillotine. Oliver lands some elbows before posturing and landing. Oliver stands and lands before settling into the guard. Oliver postures and lands a huge thudding elbow and another. Shan to his knees but Oliver gets him to his back and works for another guillotine. Oliver releases the choke and lands elbows and punches as time runs down. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Oliver

Round 2: Chan lands and Oliver answers back and Oliver lands a teep to the chest that knocks Chan to a knee briefly. Chan drives for the takedown but Oliver stays on his feet. Oliver breaks away and lands. Chan lands a kick to the body but Oliver catches it and takes him down to full guard. Social stands them up and Oliver takes him right back down and looks for the d’arce choke. Oliver to half guard and lands a couple huge elbows. Chan gets his guard back but Oliver drives him into the cage and postures up and lands. Oliver drops to side control and Chan tries to get back to his feet but Oliver keeps him on his back. Oliver continues to land and works for a guillotine. Oliver mounts him now and begins to rain down punches that prompt Social to step in and rescue Chan from any further punishment.

Adv. Amateur/120lbs- Jess Hopkins (2-0) vs. Brittney Allan (2-1)
Round 1: Hopkins opens with a leg kick and another. They trade punches and Hopkins with another leg kick. Allan with a solid combo that backs Hopkins to the cage. Hopkins gets off the cage and gets the clinch and lands body shots. They tie up against the cage briefly before breaking off and trading shots. They again tie up against the cage and trade shots in the clinch. Allan lands a solid combo and they clinch up again. Hopkins gets throws her into the cage and they break off again. They exchange punches and right back to the cage. They again separate and trade punches with Hopkins getting the better of the final exchange. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Hopkins

Round 2: Allan with a leg kick and Hopkins responds before Allan connects with a solid combo. Hopkins with a leg kick and a spinning back kick to the body. They tie up against the cage before getting off the cage and trading shots. Both ladies are landing solid shots and Allan gets the clinch. Hopkins works for a guillotine but Allan spins out and Hopkins tries to take the back but Allan gets free. Hopkins connects and they tie up against the cage again. Again they work off the cage and begin to exchange massive blows. Hopkins with a big knee to the body as the clapper sounds and drives her against the cage until the round ends. Round 3: Allan with a leg kick and Hopkins slowly backing her towards the cage. Hopkins catches a knee and drives her to the cage but Allan reverses and gets her back to the center. Allan lands and Hopkins with a leg kick and a right. Allan lands again and Hopkins again with a leg kick and a right. Allan gets the clinch and they clash with leg kicks. They separate and Hopkins lands a leg kick and Allan with one of her own. Allan connects and closes the distance and ties up. They break away and a leg kick for Allan. Brittney Allan defeats Jess Hopkins by Split Decision

Adv. Amateur/190lbs- Blazen Chakita (0-2) vs. Joel Odorski (0-0)
Round 1: They clash with kicks and Odorski’s lands on the cup and time is called. On the restart Odorski connects and drives him into the cage. Chakita reverses and looks for the takedown. Odorski works back to his feet but Chakita is able to get him back to the mat in full guard. Odorski gets the sweep to half guard and lands some solid body shots. Odorski works for a kimura but can’t get the torque and lets go with one hand and lands a couple body shots and again. Odorski continues to hammer away at the body and the thigh. Chakita rolls and is stoll working for the kimura but time runs out. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Odorski

Round 2: Odorski presses forward with a combo and Chakita lands one that cuts Odorski on the head. Odorski gets the takedown to half guard and begins to land. Chakita working for an arm triangle from the bottom and Odorski pulls his head free. They scramble and stand back to their feet but Chakita drags him back to the mat. Odorski is able to lock in the kimura once again and this time is able to secure the tap.

Pro/155lbs- Alexi Argyriou (5-0) vs. Hamilton Ash (5-2)
Round 1: High kick by Argyriou just misses and lands a leg kick. Ash comes forward with a combo and it looks like a headbutt lands but Argyriou isn’t affected and they tie up against the cage. They separate and Argyriou lands, another combo connects and they jockey for position against the cage. The lights go out in the arena and time out is called. They turn on the house lights and there’s just enough light to get back underway. On the restart Argyriou lands a solid leg kick and a head kick. Ash connects and shoots for the takedown but Argyriou pops back to his feet. Ash gets a mounted guillotine choke and takes him to the mat and looks to have it sunk in deep and the lights go out again. Referee Luke Boutin has no choice but to pause the action again despite what could be a near submission and Ash’s corner is livid. Unfortunately due to the technical issues with the lights and not being able to get that back on in a timely fashion the fight will end in a no contest. Post fight Ash asks Hard Knocks matchmaker Lee Mein for a rematch and Mein says “Absolutely” and Argyriou says the choke “wasn’t even close”.

Pro/130lbs- Chad Anheliger (4-5) vs. Josh Smith (5-3)
Round 1: They feel each other out and the first strike landed is an illegal kick to the cup from Anheliger. Smith lands a right and catches a kick and drags him to the mat. Smith gets the back and works for the choke. Anheliger looks to escape but Smith stays on his back. Smith lands a few shots and locks in his body triangle. Smith with hammerfists to the ears and Anheliger is able to work back to his feet but Smith drags him back down and gets to half guard. Smith dives forward for a guillotine choke. Anheliger works back to his feet and lands a huge knee on a takedown attempt by Smith but he eats it and ends up on top. Smith works to take the back and lands a couple shots. Round 2:  Smith with a jab and an overhand right. Smith shoots from way out and Anheliger side steps the takedown. Smith with a takedown again and completes it to half guard. Anheliger looks for a sweep but Smith stays heavy and settles into the guard. Anheliger sinks the guillotine choke and Smith taps and falls to his back in exhaustion.

Pro/155lbs-Josh Goodheart (1-1) vs. Christian Tremayne (1-0)
Round 1: Goodheart with a combo and Tremayne with a leg kick. Goodheart gets the takedown and takes the back and works for the rear-naked choke. Tremayne works hard to defend the choke but is ultimately forced to tap.

Adv. Amateur/155lbs- Ramil Kamilov (0-0) vs. Travis Grayson (0-0) 
Round 1: They exchange punches and Grayson with a kick to the body. Grayson takes a poke in the eye and referee Andy Social pauses the action. On the restart Kamilov swings and miss and they trade shots before Grayson gets the big double to half guard.Kamilov sits up and Grayson looking for a guillotine but Kamilov stands back up. They jockey for position against the cage and Grayson knees the thighs. Social calls for time as Grayson lands a knee to the groin. They restart and Kamilov with a leg kick and a right. They tie up and Grayson muscles him against the cage. Knee to the body for Grayson and Kamilov reverses and looks for the takedown but Grayson right back ip and looks for a guillotine but Kamilov pulls his head out and they trade shots and a takedown at the bell for Grayson. Round 2: Kamilov lands a nice 1-2 qnd Grayson looks for the takedown but Kamilov scrambles back up. Grayson working for the takedown against the cage. Kamilov defending and Grayson controlling him against the cage and lands a knee. Kamilov lands a knee of his own and Grayson looks for the single and gets the big slam to side control. Grayson postures up and stands but Kamilov gets back to his feet and drops Grayson. Kamilov unleashes a barrage of punches but Grayson is surviving. Kamilov lines up a massive knee to the body and a couple more shots that force Social to call off the bout with only seconds left.

Round 1: Demmings leg kick and Courtoreille answers back. Another leg kick and Courtoreille catches it and lands a jab. They exchange shots and Courtoreille lands a kick to the body. Demmings with one to the body and Courtoreille responds in kind. Courtioreille lands a solid right and lands another and Demmings responds with a leg kick. Courtoreille lands a leg kick and gets the takedown. A scramble sees Courtoreille looking for a single but they work back to their feet against the cage. Demmings with a couple knees and Courtoreille gets the takedown as the round comes to an end. Top MMA News scores round 10-9 Courtoreille

Round 2: Courtoreille with a leg kick and Demmings eventually lands one of his own and Courtoreille right back with another. Demmings lands a leg kick but Courtoreille catches it. Courtoreille lands a combo and Courtoreille doing well to stay out of range and pops in to land a right and gets the takedown. Demmings looking for an Omaplata but Courtoreille is out of danger and looking for a reverse triangle and turns and leans back to land some ground and pound. Round 3: Courtoreille lands a leg kick and gets out of the way of a spinning back kick from Demmings. Demmings with a leg kick and catches a body kick and looks for the takedown. A brief guillotine attempt but Courtoreille escapes back to his feet. Big combo from Courtoreille falls short and they trade leg kicks. Courtoreille counters a combo with a short and they tie up against the cage and Courtoreille looks for a single before switching to a double and dumping him to the mat and settles into half guard for the final seconds.     After living with Arnett for two months and seeing everything he puts Into fighting and the respect he shows to this game I can honestly say nobody deserves this more then him.

    The commission found a problem on Sheil’s pre-fight medical and they werent able to get it cleared up in time!

    Wow… just saw that John Sheil (Menad Abella’s opponent) who was pulled out of HK54 due to problems with his medicals posted a Go Fund Me because he needs heart surgery due to “Wolfes Heart” (Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome).
