Canadian MMA Rumour Mill – January 25, 2017

We start this Rumour Mill out on a somber note as the MMA community lost another fighter way to soon. Denny Houle passed away this weekend at the age of 30. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Denny’s friends, family and training partners.

…and now some rumours!

  • Jeremy Kennedy will look to make it 2-0 inside the Octagon when he takes on Rony Jason at UFC Fight Night 106 in enemy territory in Brazil.
  • Another Canadian is UFC bound as Gavin Tucker has signed on the dotted line making him the second fighter from Newfoundland to make it to the big show after Ryan Janes made his debut last month! He will take on Sam Sicilia at UFC Fight Night 105 in Halifax.
  • Joining Tucker on UFC Fight Night 105 will be Ryan Janes making his second trip to the Octagon taking on Gerald Meerschaert in a Middleweight bout.
  • Can two negatives make a positive? In this case it can… after the disappointment of losing Mike O’Neill and Cody Purtell as opponents for XFFC 13, Amateur standout turned pro Alex Martinez will now meet undefeated prospect Clay Dixon at Lightweight in a dynamite fight.

  • Matt Baker picked up a first round triangle choke victory over Ravindra Balhara at Super Fight League 2017: Delhi Heroes vs Haryana Sultans this past weekend. Baker has advanced to the second round of the team based tournament and is set to fight again on January 28 against Javed Mulla.
  • David Moon was set to compete in the Lightweight bracket opening round this past weekend however his opponent Sandeep Yadev missed weight by 22lbs. It appears that Moon was given a bye to the second round and will take on Rajinder Singh Meena on the January 28 card.
