A pair of fighters representing the easternmost Canadian province will compete on the second ever UFC card in Halifax, Nova Scotia next month. Gavin “Guv’nor” Tucker who recently signed with the promotion was born in Ship Cove, Newfoundland while Ryan Janes who will be making his second walk to the Octagon represents Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. UFC officials announced the Featherweight and Middleweight bouts yesterday afternoon.
Gavin Tucker comes into the UFC on the strength of a 9 fight winning streak to open his career finishing all but one of his victories with four knockouts and four submissions. Tucker has notable wins over Lyndon Whitlock and Ryan Connor. Tucker will take on 11 time UFC fighter Sam Sicilia in a Featherweight bout. Sicilia entered the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter putting together a 5-6 record inside the Octagon with wins over Godofredo Castro, Akira Corassani and others.
Ryan Janes will make his second appearance in the UFC after a successful debut over Keith Berish at UFC Fight Night 102. Janes had two previous outings cancelled due to a USADA violation for Ryan Hunter and the cancellation of UFC Fight Night 97 before finally making it to the cage to pick up a unanimous Decision over Berish. Standing across the Octagon will be a very experienced Gerald Meerschaert who recently debuted in the UFC himself with a Performance of the Night winning Anaconda Choke over Joe Gigliotti at the same UFC Fight Night 102 card.
