Hard Knocks Fighting Championship announced late last week that Hard Knocks 51 would host the opening round of a four man Featherweight Title Tournament. All throughout this week the names of the participants were announced via the Hard Knocks Facebook page. The men who will compete for the belt are Lenny Wheeler, Sabah Fadai, Kurt Southern and Daniel Swain.

Earlier today the opening round match-ups were drawn at random by Hard Knocks officials. On one side of the bracket Kurt Southern and Lenny Wheeler were selected to square off in the opening round which left Sabah Fadai and Daniel Swain to meet in a rematch on the other half of the bracket. The winners of the two bouts will meet for the Featherweight Title on a future Hard Knocks card and the tournament is loaded with intriguing storylines.

Kurt Southern enters with a 14-7 record and is coming off a loss to Nick Rhoads at Prestige Fight Club 2 in March. Southern holds a recent win over Daniel Swain who will compete on the other side of the bracket. Southern has a little added motivation to defeat his opponent in the opening round as Wheeler holds a quick victory over Southern’s teammate Adam Lorenz.

Lenny Wheeler is also coming off a recent defeat however prior to that loss, Wheeler posted three straight sub-one minute knockout victories in international competition with wins in the US, Japan and Malaysia. As a matter of fact six of Wheeler’s nine wins have come in less than a minute.

On the other side of the bracket Sabah Fadai will be looking for some revenge of his own as his opening round match-up will be a rematch from just four months ago when he was submitted by Swain at Triumph FC’s inaugural event. That loss snapped a three fight winning streak for Fadai, a streak that saw him capture the Unified Featherweight Title.

Daniel Swain will likely be entering this tournament with a great measure of confidence due to that recent victory over Fadai. Swain’s most recent bout was a doctor stoppage loss to TUF 22 veteran Julian Erosa. In keeping with the revenge theme, if Swain is able to get past Fadai once again and Southern is able to topple Wheeler, “Agent Orange” would have an opportunity to avenge a recent defeat to the aforementioned Southern.
