Canadian Striking specialist Shane “Shaolin” Campbell has stepped in on short notice to replace Joe Proctor in a Lightweight bout against Erik “New Breed” Koch. The bout, which was announced by UFC officials a few days ago is expected to be a part of the FOX Sports 1 preliminary card.

Despite a loss in his most recent bout Shane Campbell signed a new four fight deal with the UFC. Campbell sports a 1-2 record inside the Octagon and looks to avoid losing two straight for the first time. “Shaolin” made his UFC debut exactly 1 year ago when he was signed as a late notice replacement and dropped his first outing by first round TKO against John Makdessi. Campbell rebounded with a Unanimous Decision victory over Elias Silverio and dropped his most recent bout also by Unanimous Decision against James Krause.

Standing across the cage will be Erik Koch who is also looking to rebound from a tough stretch. Koch was at one point set to face Jose Aldo for the Featherweight Title before being forced to pull out due to injury. Koch then lost his next bout to Ricardo Lamas and followed up with another loss to Dustin Poirier. Koch then got a victory over Rafaello Oliveira before dropping his most recent outing via Head Kick to Daron Cruickshank. A string of injuries has kept Koch on the shelf for an extended period of time and this will be his first bout in almost two years.

UFC Fight Night 88 features a pair of undefeated Bantamweight rising stars Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt in the main event. Also on the card former Bantamweight champ Renan Barao takes on Jeremy Stephens and Tarec Saffiedine meets Rick Story in a Welterweight bout.
