Another Canadian has a bout in the works for the Octagon debut in the Nation’s Capital of Ottawa, Ontario. Prince Edward Island’s Jason Saggo is expected to face Leandro “Buscape” Silva in a Lightweight bout at UFC Fight Night 89. Brazilian website Combate was the first to announce the reported match-up.

Jason Saggo comes into this bout sporting a 2-1 record inside the Octagon, finishing Josh Shockley and Justin Salas by first round TKO with a razor thin split decision loss sandwiched in between to Paul Felder. The Wulfrun MMA rep got the call up to the big show on the strength of a 9-1 record on the local scene. Saggo finished every one of his victories by way of submission or TKO. Saggo holds notable wins over Stephen Beaumont, Iraj Hadin and Derek Boyle among others. Saggo will look to make a strong impression on rankings specialist BKB for the future Canadian Lightweight Rankings.

Leandro Silva enters the bout with a 3-1 (1NC) record since signing with the UFC. Silva has wins over Efrain Escudero, Lewis Gonzalez and Charlie Brenneman and appeared to have submitted Drew Dober as well. The Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission overturned the decsion to a no contest due to the referee stopping the fight prematurely as Dober did not tap and did not lose consciousness. Silva has likewise been impressive on the local circuit mostly fighting in his home country of Brazil and amassing a record of 16-2-1 along the way including wins over Chris Wilson and Viscardi Andrade.

UFC Fight Night 89 goes down from Ottawa, Ontario on June 18 with a main event between Canada’s #1 Welterweight Rory “Red King” MacDonald and rising star Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Also on the card one of the longest tenured Canadian UFC fighters Patrick “The Predator” Cote meets Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone also at Welterweight.
