Prestige Fighting Championships Returns to Fort McMurray on June 3

Prestige 7Prestige Fighting Championships returns to Ft McMurray on Friday, June 3rd. Once again the Casman Centre will be home for an amazing night of Combat Sports. Prestige FC 7 will feature professional and amateur MMA as well as K-1 rules kickboxing.

Some may question if the timing is right to promote a Mixed Martial Arts Event in Ft McMurray, Prestige FC President Chad Rice feels timing couldn’t be better, “Everybody knows what the economy is like these days, and as a result, a lot of people feel it’s not a good time to put on an event in our city. I totally disagree! Now is the time, we need to show how strong Ft McMurray is. I’ve lived here for 32 years and I have been treated very well while I’ve lived here. I want to put on the best show we’ve had to date and give back to the city. I want this promotion to highlight the RMWB and show the region what our city and citizens have to offer, from supporting local athletes, local sport and attracting tourism to our community. I’m sure this will be another sold out event, and a night the people of Ft
McMurray will really enjoy.”

Rice has added Dwayne “D-Bomb” Lewis and Dean Panas to his team in preparation for Prestige FC 7. It’s a move that Rice explains has shown immediate results, “I continue to learn with every show we do. The most valuable lesson I have learned is to get the right people for the job. Dwayne has been a star in the MMA world for years! He became one of the best in the world with dedication and hard work. After years of training and being a professional fighter he is really known for not backing down and fighting any opponent that was put in front of him. He is a great addition as Prestige Fighting Championships has always been known as a “Fighter” Promotion and I know he is excited to work with us. Dwayne’s work ethic will lead to great results in his new position.”

“D-Bomb” isn’t the only addition to Rice’s team. Dean Panas worked for Prestige on their last show and he was an asset that Rice wanted for the future. “Dean knows all the ins and outs of Canadian MMA” says Rice. “He has great relationships with many of the fighters and he understands what it takes to put on an entertaining event. He has worked with many other promotions and his experience is a great asset to have.”

It didn’t take Lewis and Panas long to agree on what they wanted to accomplish on June 3rd. “It’s all about creating memories”, Panas says. “I want Prestige FC fans to be as excited as they were when Dwayne Lewis and Sandy Bowman fought in the Casman Centre. I want to showcase entertaining fighters by matching them with other entertaining fighters. This is an opportunity I’ve always wanted and I am going to work my ass off to make sure we have a great show!”

For Fort McMurray’s own Dwayne Lewis, June 3rd is going to be a night of mixed emotions. “It’s going to be awesome and hard at the same time” says an emotional Lewis. It’s going to be tough knowing I won’t be fighting in front of my home town fans at this event. But I know how excited I’ll be because we are putting together a crazy card full of awesome fights. We have a main event that has the potential to be the fight of the year in Canada. I can’t wait for that fight!”

The main event that has “D-Bomb” ready to explode is Michael “The Messenger” Hill versus Jesse “The Body Snathcher” Ronson. Hill is a former contender on The Ultimate Fighter when he was a member of the season 16 cast. Since his appearance on the show “The Messenger” has fought some of the top welterweights in Canada including Ryan Ford, Matt McGrath, and the late Joel Powell. Jesse Ronson is a UFC vet that is looking to return to the UFC and is willing to take the toughest fights he can find to fulfill his dreams. Ronson was given his nickname “The Body Snatcher” as a result of his devastating body shots that can immobilize his opponents. Ronson has had a hard time finding people willing to step in the cage and go toe to toe with him, as a result he has been taking fights at both welterweight and his preferred lightweight. The Prestige FC 7 Main Event will take place in the welterweight division.

Also signed for the June 3rd show is a Co Main Event between Mike Kent and Jarred McComb. Kent and McComb have had each other in each other’s sights for a while and both jumped at the opportunity to step in the Prestige FC cage. Kent is a local fan favorite who has tried to step away from the cage on a handful of occasions, but his heart keeps him coming back for more. McComb is a tough, gritty fighter who seems to get better every time he steps in the cage.

Another fight that has Lewis excited for Prestige FC 7 is a K-1 rules Kickboxing fight between Cody “Donkey” Krahn and Tim Chemelli. Chemelli is a former opponent of Lewis and so he is looking forward to seeing him in a K-1 fight. “I’m extremely interested to see Tim and Cody go at it in a K-1 fight” explained Lewis. “I know how hard Tim hits and I know how talented Cody is. Unlike MMA, you can’t take your opponent down and submit them. This is K-1, somebody is getting knocked out.”

Making his long awaited return to MMA is fan favorite Teddy “The Bear” Ash. Ash has been away from the sport for over 3 years since sustaining a knee injury while training. Teddy will be making his return to the cage against a very tough and hard hitting Dan Amyotte. Amyotte will be moving down from heavyweight to face “The Bear” at the 205 limit of light heavyweight.

According to Lewis and Rice things have been going according to plan. “We wanted a killer main event featuring two of Canada’s best and we have that” says Lewis. “Ronson and Hill were our top choices and I’m very happy we landed them both. We also have great local fighters, professional and amateur, that we want to have tough match ups for and we have started finalizing those.

Rice says that Dwayne and Dean have done a great job with matching fights, now it’s time to look after the other aspects of promoting. I want to make sure our sponsors get what they pay for. Without our sponsors this Event would not be possible. We know how valuable sponsorships are and we don’t take our sponsors for granted. We are very happy to have our Main Event sponsor (Birch Mountain Enterprises) return as they have supported us since Prestige FC 1. We would also like to thank our 2nd confirmed major sponsor (NEWO Drywall) which has been a supporter since Prestige FC 3. The event is on June 3rd, but we will be giving our sponsors as much advertising as we can before, during, and after the event. The first 10 major sponsors will get the maximum exposure as they will have a fight dedicated to them and their logo will be on a cage corner post, along with all advertising leading
up to the event.

Prestige Fighting Championship 7 goes down at 8:00 pm, June 3, 2016 at the Casman Centre in Fort McMurray. For VIP tables and sponsorship information contact Chad Rice 780-715-5900.

This show is a joke. It has been since it started. Anybody remember the embarassing Bowman-Butterbean match? I sat ringside and watched that and felt embarassed for the event. I have never seen a faker fight in my opinion.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 6 Thumb down 7

That was also years ago. Prestige is no better or worse than most other regional shows. Good main event for this card as well.
