Joel Powell, 35, Passes Away

By:

Joel PowellJoel Powell, one of Canada’s toughest Welterweight fighters, passed away suddenly early in the morning of December 30.   He was 35 years old.

Long time coach and friend, Dave Mair, announced the passing on Facebook.

It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of our brother and Discipline MMA Captain Joel Powell.  Joel answered the final bell this morning after a valiant fight the past few days.

Joel will be remembered as a great competitor and an even better person.  His two greatest qualities were that he would fight anyone he was asked to and that he would help anyone he was asked to.

He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Top MMA News had the pleasure of interviewing Powell on occasion and he was as nice a person out of the cage as he was fierce inside it.  Fans will remember him as a tremendous, fearless athlete.

Powell finished his career at 10-5 and fought many of the toughest fighters around including Joe Doerksen, Ryan Ford, Brandt Dewsbery, Mike Hill, and many more.  Powell was 3-0 in 2015 and most recently defeated Adam Smith in September.

Top MMA News would like to pass on our condolences to Joel’s friends and family.
