UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs Saffiedine Weigh-In Results

UFC Logo ThumbnailTo say fans were excited to have the UFC come to Halifax would be an understatement. Around 1500 people came into the Scotiabank Centre this afternoon to catch the weigh-ins and the Q&A with Travis Browne. With so many Canadian fighters making the trip to the east coast, the fans made sure to show their love to them and their opponents as there were little to no boos from the crowd.

While the fans may be happy with the show, one of the main voices of the UFC couldn’t wait to get the events started.

“If today’s weigh in is any indication I am pretty excited,” says Jon Anik, commentator for the UFC. “As I said at the Q & A today, these Canadian fight crowds are the best I have ever experienced. I think that is saying something because I have done a dozen shows in Brazil and I feel per capita the best mixed martial arts fans are here in Canada. This is our third trip here in 2014 but its always nice to usher in a new market in Halifax, as you can tell. It was beautiful foliage flying in today. This was one of the destinations when I saw the fight schedule in 2014 that I was most excited to come too.”

As for the weigh-ins themselves, there were no problems as everyone was able to hit their mark on the scale.  After taking a fight on less then a week’s notice, Chris Kelades had to strip down to make the cut to 126. It was impressive that he made the required target.

For people in the area, there are still limited seats for sale through the Scotiabank Centre box office.

Expect to hear Halifax explode tonight as Kelades walks in! The weigh in was so loud when Chris walked in, so loud that the UFC edited sound and video to dumb it down when they streamed it on the site.

Nice to see Kelades give the Irish fella some lip service too. Wish I knew what he had said. Probably a little irritable after cutting weight.
