Nova Scotia will have a local fighter to cheer for on this week’s UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs Saffiedine card as Chris Kelades has accepted an opportunity to fight on the Halifax card on less than a week’s notice.

Kelades (7-1) will become the first Canadian Flyweight to fight for the UFC as he will face Patrick Holohan (10-0) on the October 4th event at the Halifax Metro Centre. Kelades jumped at the opportunity to fight on the card when Holohan’s original opponent Louis Gaudinot was scratched from the card due to a case of pneumonia.

An ecstatic Chris Kelades messaged Top MMA News and said,

“I’m just very excited to have this opportunity to fight in the UFC and the icing on the cake is being able to do it here in Halifax in front of so many people that have supported me! I am looking forward to getting this done.”

The Fit Plus athlete will now have to make the unexpected cut to 125 lbs over the next five days.  In fact, Kelades had just started cutting when talking with TMN.  He likes likes to keep himself in fight shape, just for these occasions saying,

“I do my best to stay ready for any opportunity, because you just never know how your destiny will unfold.”

Kelades defeated Adrian Woolley by split decision in his last fight at ECC 21 in July. He will hope to have a successful UFC debut just like Holohan did in his first UFC fight where he impressively submitted Josh Sampo.

Funny story, I booked Chris Kelades to fight Adrian Woolley at SCC 2.0 in May but Ken Hayashi turned it down citing Kelades was a non-competitive opponent. Kelades went on to beat Woolley 2 months later and now fights in the UFC…

    Gotta love Ontario
