Anyone catch the Strawweights on TUF last week. Awesome new format where the UFC ranks fighters and the matchups are pre-set so everyone knows their opponent. Well….the third ranked Tecia Torres took on Canada’s fourteenth ranked Randa Markos-Thomas. Guess what? In an awesome three rounder, Markos won the unanimous decision. Congrats to Randa and everyone at Maximum Training Center in Windsor, Ontario!

Onward to rumourville!

  • Kyle Oliveira is saying that the MFC is trying to book him for their October card… If this were to happen it would be the first time that a WAMMA fighter has appeared on a Maximum Fighting Championship card in a long time and could be the first Flyweight bout in MFC history.
  • FIGHT4PRIDE is Back! The promoters have sorted out their venue issues and will hold FIGHT4PRIDE Championship 2 on November 22 at the SportXpo in Laval, Quebec.
  • According to a Erik Magraken report , it looks like the Manitoba Combat Sports Commission does not want any part of sanctioning amateur MMA. If a provincial sports organization (PSO) develops for MMA, that is only when Manitobans could eventually see amateur MMA.
  • Step Up Former UFC Lightweights! Andrew McInnes has lost Jacob Volkmann and now Alvin Robinson as opponents at MFC in October.
  • One familiar face will be greatly missed from the KOTC Madness card in Winnipeg on September 19.  Jerin Valel will be absent from his first ever Winnipeg event as he will be in Japan reffing for the UFC. Valel also appeared in the octagon at the UFC Brazil card this past weekend, and reffed the main event!

  • So it sounds like the UFC will have around the similar amount of events in Brazil in 2015 as they did this year, but no word on any current shows scheduled for Canada.  Now we know there will definitely be some, especially in Saskatchewan, but nothing official yet.
  • David Leduc, a 3-0 ammy out of Gatineau, Quebec, competed against Thai prisoners at Prison Fights. Check out the article HERE. By the way, Leduc will make his pro debut at Hybrid Pro. Formidable!
  • Cody Ries (4-0) picked up a Majority Decision (39-37×2, 38-38) over Paul Bzdel (5-5-1) this past weekend on the KO Boxing card in Edmonton. This was Ries’ first victory over fighter who was not an MMA guy trying his hand at boxing but a true boxer. congrats Cody!

  8. Francis Carmont is not even a Canadian. I don’t think he would be a huge draw.

Maybe Roger Hollett in Nova Scotia? Joe Doerksen for a title shot in Winnipeg?
