  1. RNC says:

Nice fight/sub by Cirkunov. Not sure how it will affect his rankings as Desilets has been off for some time and off most active rankings lists. If he’s not injured let’s see him in action again sooner than later maybe on the next PFC or FFL card.

  2. Just Sayin says:

It was an awesome performance by Cirkunov.
    He rocked Martin as well.
Awesome from mount to triangle transition.

Also a one sided Dominant performance by Devan Murray against the highly touted Dave Hale that no one would fight.
Murray exposed Hale’s weak Ground game and totally dominated with punch after punch and elbow after elbow.
Props to Hale for being tough cause a lot of those shots would have finished most!

    Well-loved! Thumb up 9 Thumb down 3

  3. Knights says:

Horrible ref. That poor fighter had a clearly broken leg and the ref let him take a beating for at least 10 seconds. It would have been like if Anderson Silva was getting beat on by Weidman for a good 10-15 secs after his injury. To his credit, that Fuchs guy is one tough big boy. Secondly, Desilets was unconscious for more than 10 secs, where his corner had to throw a water bottle at the ref to get him to stop the fight. Serious improvements are needed for the safety of these fighters, who put there well being in the hands of what seems like unqualified referees

Another great time in London for PFC. Just want to thank Jamie Champion and the crew for the opportunity to work with a great bunch of guys and get a chance to see all my good friends again.

Randa Markos is as tough as they come in the women’s division. Tough as nails and works harder than most of the fighters I know. She had an experience edge against House and it showed. But House has a great future ahead of her and should be proud that she stepped up and gave it her all. Hopefully Randa can be the Canadian rep for TUF.

Two of my favourite fighters in Ricci and Healy put on a real exciting fight. Ricci wanted a big test and he immediately accepted Healy. A really close decision, but both guys should be proud of their performances. This one was tough one for me because Ricci needed a win to potentially go to (or get closer to) the next level and Healy needed a win to reboot his career. I’d love to see both guys win all their fights, but the fight made sense for both of them so we made it happen. As happy as I am for Ryan, I’m as glum for Alex. Life of a matchmaker I guess.

Great FOTN performance by Prepolec and Morin and both guys showed a ton of heart. A big win for Devin Murray but kudos to Dave Hale to step up on short notice against a larger fighter. Hale is a true pro and obviously if you think he’s a can, you don’t know. I have no doubt he will rebound soon at a more natural 145 pounds.

Congrats to all the winners and a speedy recovery to Jeff Fuchs. Gladly, my angle was blocked and I couldn’t see his injury. Sometimes an obstructed view becomes a positive.

Thanks for everyone for their support and looking forward to the next PFC. I appreciate the kind words about the matchmaking on the card but Woodrow James is owed as much of the credit as I am. But the real credit goes to the fighters who stepped up and performed for the fans.

  14. Spectator says:

I agree with Knight that there was some terrible moments of incompetence for the referees officiating the event, the OAC needs a lot of work and it’s obvious that Hayashi needs to give local refs more opportunities to develop their skills and have the right instinctive decision making. Experience goes a long way. However only two ref’s actually fucked up, and they did fuck up bad. I hate having to point out names, but these two refs may read this post and realize they have a lot of work to do, they did not seem aware or focused on the task at hand and that is, simply put, to protect the fighters and ensure their safety. As lifeguards they failed and those two are Graham Betts and Todd Anderson.

The Jeffery UFChs fight was disgraceful. There was an obvious injury, if he didn’t see it he should have heard his leg snap in half. He then let ‘Bear Paws’ pound on him for an unnecessary long amount of time. Terrible judgement call. Knight had it right, it would be like if Chris Weidman pounded on Anderson Silva after he broke his leg. Graham Betts needs to wake the fuck up.

The Misha fight also showed a total disregard for Martin Desilets’ well being. Once Cirkunov got the mounted triangle and rolled over Desilets clearly tapped 3 TIMES! and then was allowed to go unconscious, even after the fact, it took a several seconds for the ref to realize that Desilets was out cold for a nap. Props to Misha for not letting go and making the finish definitive, its what any fighter would have done. Todd Anderson needs to wake up in there, he clearly let that one slip.

Officiating is a thankless job, when you do everything right no one notices that you’ve done anything at all. I don’t mean to be hater, just being critical because being a ref is a huge responsibility and as a fighter I want to know that someone competent who knows what they’re looking at and knows how to react accordingly is overseeing my fight.

Overall I think the rest of the ref’s did a fantastic job. For example, the Scott Hudson fight was a perfect stoppage, the ref saw the overhand land was right above the action and gave Joel every chance to recover or defend before coming to his rescue.

Overall I thought it was a superb show and only wish there would be more PFC shows in the near future.

p.s it makes sense for PFC to go to Montreal for their next show with Alex based there as the matchmaker and the card being filled with Tristar fighters, however for grassroots MMA in Ontario, I think all the fans would love, appreciate and support if PFC did a show filled with local fighters in Hamilton and/or Mississauga (Peel Region). That would also give Ontario Refs more opportunities to develop their skills ;)

    Well-loved! Thumb up 10 Thumb down 4

  15. Alex Caporicci says:

I really do think all four Ontario referees have done an excellent job and I wouldn’t let either of these two incidents take away from all the good they have done. You’ve seen it in the UFC with refs like Herb Dean and Dan Miragliotta. Our sport is like no other where not everything is cut and dry. Isolated incidents when good men have showed high quality is something we have to move past.

As an aside, I happened to be with Martin Desilets when Todd Anderson was going over the rules (what is a foul, what he will do/say before he stops a fight) and I found it fascinating. Desilets’ english is pretty weak so I tried to translate in broken French, but Anderson’s explanations were excellent, clear and intelligent. Despite being around a lot of shows, I’ve never sat in on an explanation of the rules to a fighter by a referee. Its possible all referees are similar, but I left that meeting being very impressed with Todd Anderson. Its refs like him we need.

  16. Rino Belcastro says:

Great Job by PFC, Jamie and the rest of the crew that helped put things together. Lots of great fighters in Ontario, lot of competitve camps that are full of class before and after the fights. Misha looked solid, Ricci is tough and impressed by takedown defence and him getting up vs a guy like Healy.

PPl who got to see Randa and meet Randa know that she is as real as they get. she is in this thing to be the best, not for a side show and deserving to get into the TUF20 House.

Prepolec is as tough as they come and his athletic ability is something else as continues to progress, unfortunately doing it with all these tough fights. It’s Awesome I/we have the last 2 around Im talking about to work with as their dedication alone is worth it-(MTC)

Now the 1000 elephant sitting at the dinner table nobody is addressing

Toronto guys… Its time to be honest and serious about what just happened. I’d say it is very indicitave of some changes that need to be made training wise when every Toronto\gta athlete loses in this event.. “Except misha”

  19. Gram Bette’s should not be a ref

Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  20. Winner says:

Another huge problem being missed by the refs and commission is that amount of greasing or other slick substances used by many of the the stand up fighters competing against grapplers. This was more than obvious early within the first rounds. Substances can be applied hours before the event, absorbed and will begin to release once a light sweat occurs. This is not hard to prove and a diqualification should be given immediately. So many people whine about cheating in other ways and this needs to be permentantly attached to fighters records. Why train grappling anymore, when one dimensional stand up fighters can oil up in advance

Wow what a weekend/3 months of fun work!!!

Jamie Champion And the PFC thank you for letting me apart of this awesome event. We all gave our best efforts and in the end i feel the card was exciting form top to bottom for a variety of reasons. Poeple like Jamie are great for the support, he really does care for the sport/athletes and the promotional side as well. feel like ive known him for years and barely been a year

Alex C your like a brother to me. was awesome again putting on a solid show with you on the matchmaking side!!! the shit we had to deal with!!!!
Gross/Rory/Lyndon/Paquette/ainsley robinson all huge ticket sellers and were forced off the card one way or another and as expected the PFC still delivered!! very grateful to have this crew together (staff/fighters/teams)

i got to hangout with quite the characters this weekend. Steve Claveau has amazing stories. Martin desilets and myself stuck in traffic while he talked to me for 25 minutes in french and i had no clue 90% what he said.
Metting Keith Greinke for the first time was awesome, good guy knows the sport in a different view than i sometimes look at, i think its called unbiased lol.
-crashing the commision and officials dinner at boston pizza and making it ackward for them as i didnt leave till i ordered and ate!!! they were all to nice to tell me to leave i think.telling the server Ken was my grandpa and doesnt get out much made the room roar!!! im guessing my june date in sarnia is going to be canceled now lol
-Jeff Fuchs is tough as hell and a great guy, speedy recovery bro

  24. Was great to meet Woodrow finally as well!

    As for the allegations:

The triangle was on for a while, I did not see a Desilets tap.

I did not see a water bottle/towel thrown in and Desilets, Claveau, Morin did not mention it to me after the fights. I have been told by others that they did see a towel or a water bottle thrown in.

Jeff Fuchs back was to me. I saw him throw a leg kick, but he blocked my view of it landing. Jordan threw a right and I had thought that was what dropped Fuchs. From my position, we did not know about the broken leg until the doctor came in and they took out a temporary cast.

I saw no evidence of greasing, except for Woodrow James. He is one greasy motherf*cker by 5am! :)

I would also like to mention that it takes a willing subject for us to cover them as well. I got interviews with Randa Markos, Kyle Prepolec, and Mike Imperato while in London. Some guys did not have the time to be interviewed by us when we asked. Celebrating a win or driving home was their priority.
