Gossip Queen WSOF2It’s cold outside but MMA in Canada is red hot! Three shows this week including an incredibly rare Wednesday night show! Good luck to all the fighters and stay healthy.

On to this week’s Mill !

  • By the way, if you are looking for a fighter, Ainsley Robinson tweeted he is ready to fight if anyone is looking!
  • The Mirage Banquet Centre in Edmonton, home of Unified MMA, has increased its capacity by over 25% to 1400 seats.
  • Unified MMA will be working with KOTC Canada for their June 6th 2014 show in Cold Lake.
  • I’m hearing Shane Campbell may be on the WSOF Canada show on April 19th in Hamilton.

  • Congrats to Headrush Training Center’s Marc Alan Jhingran for heading to New York and bringing back the CNY Battleground’s Amateur Bantamweight title.
  • BTW… in case you don’t know, the HRTC is the gym formerly known as Grant’s MMA.
  • Provincial Fighting Championships next card will be in Montreal.
  • MFC Middleweight champion Sam Alvey (21-5) has a NAFC MegaBrawl bout against Gerald Meerschaert (18-7) scheduled just three weeks (May 31st) after his MFC 40 title defense against Wes Swofford (9-4)
  • The MFC 135lbs title fight is seemingly safe, Kevin Croom defeated Bryan Goldsby by unanimous decision at Titan Fighting Championship 27 on February 28th.
  • Josh Hill will give pro wrestling a go and take on Scotty O’Shea in Hamilton on March 16th. O’Shea is a former SCW Tag Team Champion, as well as a 2 time C4 Champion.
  • Ashley Nichols lost a split decision to Angela Hill at Friday Night Fights in New York City. Nichols started slow, with Hill being the aggressor but the superior technique of Nichols took over the 2nd half of the fight and Nichols ended the bout stronger. The bout was for the WKA North America Flyweight Title.
  • Quite a few MMA fighters fought on this past weekend’s KO Boxing event in Edmonton. Cody Ries (2-0, 3-2 MMA) defeated Matt Jelly (0-2, 3-3 MMA) via unanimous decision, Eric Huang (1-0, 1-1 Amateur MMA) defeated Jama Gaiye Mohamad (2-2) via unanimous decision, and Reece Chapman (0-1, 0-3 MMA) lost to Cam O’Connell (6-0-1) via 1st round KO. Headlining the card was Jelena Mrdjenovich to defeated Fatuma Zarika of Kenya via unanimous decision, also appearing on the card was 2 time Canadian Olympian, Adam Trupish (11-2) who lost via shocking 5th round TKO Phil Rose (5-2-1)

  1. Its good to see quite a few mma fighters staying active and sharpening their stand up skills by going into pro boxing, as was witnessed this weekend at the Shaw Conference Center! big congrats to Reece Chapman, even though you lost you took the fight on days notice and showed the heart of a warrior going against a former world amateur boxing champion, and for that you should be proud!!!

  2. Hades says:

OMFG!!! Jarid Bussemakers is actually NOT fighting on a card? But but but his name was posted on the card! This has never happened before. I am so so shocked.

  3. Ryan D says:

Don’t get me wrong i would Watch Rousey vs Carano but it seems Dana the Douche wants the title in the hands of a fighter who he thinks is more marketable cause of there looks. Otherwise why not sign Cyborg she recently stated she can do 135lbs. Davis is good but Rousey takes that easily in the first round. I just wanna see that stupid C**t Rhonda get put down. Can’t stand here attitude and she sucks at portraying the bad girl. Always got that wanna be bad ass angry look on her face which she pulls of horribly

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 7 Thumb down 5

  4. Cody Krahn says:

Cyborg needs to prove that she can make 135 outside UFC. I’m sure she can and will make weight and destroy some poor woman. Then the hype will be there for that fight. WAR CYBORG!

  5. Kru says:

    No Bussemaker’s … No surprise

  6. Adam Lorenz says:

Has Carano made 135? I know that she beat up a few 135ers but were the fights ever below 140 or 145?

  7. Cody Rempel says:

Her pro MMA debut was at 135 then 138, 150, 141, 141, 144 and then last two were at 145

  8. Ryun says:

Dana White and Rousey said no to any catchweight with cyborg, but if they actually get Carano to fight, it would be at any weight see wanted.
We’ve all seen Rousey fight and what see can do. Even at 150 or a higher weight, Rousey would run over Carano.
All this fight may do is start taking away any legitimacy of women’s mma. Before you know it bikinis, implants, makeup and attractiveness(solid 8 out of 10) will be the requirements

    Well-loved! Thumb up 6 Thumb down 0

  9. Adam Lorenz says:

Thanks for that very good answer Cody haha!

Yes, I agree that Ronda would run her over at any weight. I can’t imagine what the betting line would be like.

  10. Bdc says:

Carano hasnt fought in years why would the ufc give her a shot? Must be based on sex appeal rather than an earned shot.

  11. Robin Black says:

@Bdc the UFC makes fights entirely based on what will make the most money.

    The rankings are an illusion.

The two biggest stars in WMMA history, both beautiful, both crossover stars.

    That makes bank.

    That’s always their #1 priority.

  12. Bdc says:

Entirely based is a stretch. Yes lately it has head more that way but there has been countless legit shots where guys have earned it even if they were not the most “likeable” or “most money making fight”. Im all for carano and rousey but at least make carano fight a top notch opponent like carmouche too prove shes not going to get steam rolled and still has it.

  13. Hi friends. A friend a mine succumbed to his injuries this past Saturday. He was in a severe accident just past Strathroy in Kerwood Ontario. He was a former fighter and fought for his life for two months. He has two young boys and a wife that are left without their caring father and husband. If you have the means I ask you please donate to the link below to help cover the costs that they now incur. Brandon was my best friend through a fun journey we had in the world of mixed martial arts and we were insuperable. Any donations, thoughts and prayers are welcome and appreciated.

    Thanks guys.

    Rest in heaven Brandon
