Machan vs Lorenz Plus Two More Fights Added to WSOF Card
World Series of Fighting Canada will feature a battle between two of Canada’s top Featherweights as Top MMA News has learned that Josh Machan will take on Adam Lorenz on February 21 in Edmonton. Also on card is a Welterweight bout between Brandt Dewsbery and Mark Drummond and a Lightweight bout between Trent House and Dustin Greentree.
The matchup was rumoured on the Top MMA News comments section over the past week and now WSOF Matchmaker Darren Owen has confirmed to Top MMA News that Lorenz and Machan will tangle on the WSOF Canada: Ford vs Powell card in Edmonton.
Owen, who is also the WSOF Canada Chief Operating Officer, gave his thoughts on the bout,
“This is a very exciting matchup between two of Canada’s best Featherweights. Machan has an amazing win streak going and he’s looking so dangerous right now. On the flip side, Lorenz was in a streak very similar until he hit a speed bump then the disappointment of his last opponent not making weight and the fight not happening. I know Lorenz is hungrier than ever for this fight. I truly expect to see the best Adam Lorenz ever and that is a scary thing for Machan.”
One doubts that Josh Machan, Canada’s third ranked Featherweight, is scared of many fighters as he has finished every opponent he has faced since 2007, with the exception of the UFC’s Mitch Clarke. Since that time, Machan has won eleven out of twelve fights including wins over the highly regarded John Fraser, Derek Boyle and Lenny Wheeler. In his most recent bout last year, Machan handed the previously unbeaten Alex Halkias his first loss. Incredibly, Machan had only 42 seconds of cage time in his two fights in 2013. Machan was to appear on the WSOF Canada’s December card against Shawn Albrecht but was forced off the card due to injury.
Adam Lorenz is going to have to watch out for Machan’s quick submissions! Lorenz was on a tear having won seven of eight fights before he was subbed in the first minute by Alvin Robinson and Lenny Wheeler in his last two fights. Still, Lorenz is Canada’s ninth ranked 145er and has beaten former Bellator fighter Will Romero and former Strikeforce fighter Rolando Perez. He also have avoided the strong submission game of BJJ black belt Seiji Sugiman-Marangos, so he has the ability to avoid Machan’s subs.
Also confirmed to be on the WSOF Edmonton main card on February 21st is a Welterweight fight between Mark Drummond (5-1) and Brandt Dewsbery (10-2). Edmonton’s Mark Drummond has won five consecutive fights with his latest victory coming via submission over Jemark Brady. However, Dewsbery will be Drummond’s toughest opponent to date. Brandt Dewsbery, who’s CMC Lethbridge coach Lee Mein is also on the card, will be looking to rebound after losing his latest bout to Ryan Dickson. Prior to that loss, Dewsbery had won five fights in a row and was destined to crack Canada’s top 10 Welterweights.
Like Dewsbery, Calgary’s Trent House (2-1) will also be looking to get his promising fight career back on track. After looking very impressive in his first two professional fights, the Champion’s Creed fighter took a short notice fight in Idaho where he lost via submission to Koa Ramos. House’s undercard opponent will be Dustin Greentree (1-1). Greentree, from Kamikaze Punishment in Edmonton, won his first pro fight in October against Lee Darragh.
