Canadian MMA Rumour Mill – December 2, 2013

By:

MFC 34 Ring GirlAnyone else worried about UFC coverage once Roger’s new contract with the NHL kicks in October 2014?  Press releases said that all Sportsnet channels will carry NHL on Saturday.  Where does that leave us MMA fans on UFC Saturdays?  Would this past Saturday’s The Ultimate Fighter Finale be shown on tape delay?  Since Sportsnet created Sportsnet 360 they have done a terrific job covering the UFC.  Let’s hope it continues!

  • Canada has TUF ladies!  Although she lost the Finale to Julianna Pena, Jessica Rakoczy won TUF KO of the Year on TUF18 and $25,000 for her stoppage win over Roxanne Modafferi. Sarah Moras won TUF Sub of the Year and $25,000 for her armbar win over Peggy Morgan! Great job!
  • Ok, Ryan Dickson jumped in to fight Marcus Vinicius at WSOF 7, well now Vinicios is out of his December 7th bout due to a neck injury. So where does this leave Dickson, fight or no fight? Dickson is so fed up, he wants to head south to continue his career.
  • TUF Nations will debut January 15th!
  • Bellator is returning to Ontario and Casino Rama. The show is set for sometime between March to May!
  • Here’s some Provincial Fighting Championship dates for you guys… I had the April date at the Hershey Centre wrong, the date is April 19th. Also, look for PFC to go to Montreal in June and London, Ontario at the Budweiser Gardens in October! Great to see PFC has four shows planned in 2014.

  • I mentioned that MFC 39 is at the Edmonton Expo Centre and not the Shaw Conference Centre.  Well, it seems like I was right as the MFC Youtube vids are mentioning the Expo Centre.
  • Avant Guard Productions’ third show will be held in either May/June in Sarnia, Ontario!
  • Cory MacDonald is now coaching at Hayabusa Academy in Kingston, Ontario!

I would like to add: 3 MMA fighters will be making their pro boxing debut this Friday Dec 6 in Edmonton @ Shaw Conference Center @ KO Boxing Promotion

Max Gagne (3-2-1-) vs Elvis Vukaj (Debut)
Taylor Bull (1-3-0) vs Marcus Hicks (Debut)
Dia Grant(0-2-0). vs Cody Ries (Debut)

    Well-loved! Thumb up 12 Thumb down 3

  3. Cody Rempel says:

Apparently UFC coverage will not be affected by the NHL deal… It seems to me Sportsnet 360 will be reserved for whatever NHL games are leftover, for example… According to this grid it would be Dallas vs. St. Louis followed by San Jose vs. New Jersey! I have to think UFC would get much better ratings than those games, especially when there are several Canadian teams playing on other channels!
