Sabah Fadai Meets Nick Newell at WSOF 7 in Vancouver
The fights are started to roll in for World Series of Fighting’s Canadian debut and the most recent addition is a Lightweight match up between Iranian born Canadian Sabah Fadai and one of the most talked about fighters outside the UFC, Nick Newell. The bout was first reported by Sports Illustrated and WSOF Canada COO Darren Owen confirmed that this bout will air on the NBC Sports aired main card.
Fadai is a student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Bibiano Fernandes and also trains under Kultar Gill at Mamba MMA in Abbostford, BC. Fadai enters this bout with mixed results in his last three contests, all with the MFC. Fadai has gone 1-1 with a no contest during his MFC stint, picking up a first round submission victory in his most recent fight against Cody Krahn. Fadai has finished all seven of his victories including five in the first round.
Newell burst gained widespread attention in 2011 when he signed with XFC and began tearing through progressively tougher competition en route to amassing a perfect 10-0 record including nine first round stoppages despite missing his left hand and forearm. Newell proved in his last two bouts that he could compete with high level opponents when he took out Eric Reynolds and later TUF Veteran Keon Caldwell in his WSOF Debut.
World Series of Fighting makes their Canadian debut at Vancouver’s PNE Agrodome on December 7 and will air live on NBC Sports Network. Canadian broadcast plans are in the works and have yet to be announced. The only official bouts on the card so far are Anthony Johnson vs. Mike Kyle in the main event and Elvis Mutapcic vs. Jesse Taylor in a Middleweight Tournament semi-final. Also rumored for the card are several Canadian match-ups including Dwayne Lewis vs. Kalib Starnes, Matt Baker vs. David Perron, Josh Machan vs. Shawn Albrecht and Ryan Chiappe vs. Marcus Vinicios
