With a title fight featuring a UFC veteran and local crowd favorite, Extreme Cage Combat has treated their latest event like a game of blackjack and have doubled down with a second championship fight.

Top MMA News has learned that a Welterweight title match between Matt MacGrath and Christ Franck has been added to the ECC 18: Road for Glory which will take place Friday, October 25th in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This co-main event joins the card which already features David Loiseau and Mike Kent squaring off for the ECC Light-Heavyweight title.

Both co-main event fighters are coming into this match on three fight winning streaks. Matt MacGrath, 13-8, has been tearing it up in Elite 1 against the likes of Nabil Khatib, Mark Holst and Richard Arsenault, where he was able to capture the promotion’s Welterweight belt. With New Brunswick going through a legal battle with MMA, Macgrath did not want to sit aside and will like to add some extra hardware to stick over the mantle at home.

After starting off his career at 1-3, Christ Franck, now 4-3, was able to make a name for himself with a split decision win over Marcus Aurelio at Bellator 79 last November. Franck has been quiet since then but will be looking get his name back on the map and a win against MacGrath will do just that.

Besides the new co-main event, five new fights have been announced on the card which includes Dave Pariseau now stepping in to face Tristan Johnson in a Featherweight showdown. Johnson was originally slated to face fellow ranked Adam Lorenz but promoter Peter Martell said Lorenz pulled out because of a conflict with school. Also on the card is Teddy Ash, who is coming off a win at MFC 38 against Jared McComb earlier this month, who will face long time veteran Chester Post. Post had previously announced his retirement after losing to Aaron Myers at ECC 15 back in February to focus on his career as a chef but has decided to come back to the cage. While Post may have a career record of 6-24-1, he has never backed down from a fight which has included a slew of UFC vets like Sean Pierson, Nick Ring, David Loiseau and Victor Valimaki.

The card will also feature Pat Carroll, Vanja Vojvodic and Adrian Vilaca among others. There is still a chance that Chris Kelades could make his return from a concussion which has kept him sidelined for the past two years but ECC has been having trouble finding a suitable opponent at this time. Tickets are still available at the Halifax Forum box office or through www.ticketpro.ca

Just heard that Teddy Ash has backed out of his fight with Chester Post. Sad to hear, was looking forward to seeing Post back in the cage out here in Hali. Hopefully a replacement fighter will be found for Post. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is curious to see Post fight again.
