Johnson and Lorenz to Meet at ECC 18
What do you do for an MMA card when your main event features two of the top ten Featherweights in the country? Well, you add two more top ranked Canadian Featherweights for a co-main event.
Top MMA News has gotten word today from Extreme Cage Combat that Tristan Johnson will face Adam Lorenz on their fourth event this year. The event, titled Road for Glory, will take place September 28th in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Johnson, who comes in ranked number five in the Canadian Featherweight Rankings, will be looking to rebound after a loss to number four ranked Jesse Gross at ECC 17 back in May. Gross’ wrestling proved to be difference maker as he was able to keep Johnson down for a good chunk of the fight. Besides the loss to Gross, the Fit Plus product has been able to win three of his last four fights with wins coming against Lyndon Whitlock and two against number 10 ranked William Romero. The blemish comes against Rick Glenn, who is now with the World Series of Fighting.
Lorenz comes in ranked number seven, but is coming off back to back submission losses against former UFC veteran Alvin Robertson and number eight ranked Lenny Wheeler. Besides the last two fights, Lorenz has shown he can hang with the big boys with wins over the likes of Will Romero and Rolando Perez.
Johnson will look to use his stand-up for this fight as Lorenz will look to counter with his wrestling. Either way fans in Halifax will be treated to a great matchup with two of the classier guys in Canadian MMA. While the match is official, it is uncertain if this match will determine a number 1 contender for the winner of the Gavin Tucker/Jesse Gross title fight that is scheduled for the main event. One would have to think so.
