Canadian Rumour Mill – August 6, 2013

Let’s start this week off on double congratulatory note!

Big congratulations to AFC partner Troy Lepage who got married in a lavish ceremony in Edmonton to his fiancé! The wedding was truly extravagant with a ring, screens, prizes and championship belt!

Also congratulations to Alexis Davis who got engaged to BJJ Black Belt boyfriend Flavio Meier! Bad news for “Big Win” Don Wilson as he’s lost his imaginary girlfriend and I am sure Flavio could take him with ease!

  • I know I said that Tim Chemelli had a rematch with Dwayne Lewis in his AFC contract.  However, I hear that Tim Chemelli  could rematch Victor Valimaki at Xcessive Force Fighting Championship 3 in Grande Prairie for their Light-Heavyweight strap.  Lots of options for Chemelli!
  • XFFC 3 is changing dates, from September 21st show to December 14th!
  • Sarah Kaufman is now is looking for a new opponent for her UFC debut with Sara McMann being forced to withdraw from UFC Fight Night 27.

  • Tim “Shady” Smith is possibly defending his Unified 155lbs belt against Ryan Rother. Rother unofficially earned that shot when he finished off Neal Anderson in his last bout.
  • Team Nogueira member and former Revolution member Thiago Goncalves returned to action after nearly two years off and defeated Alexandre Barros by TKO in the 2nd round at Watch Out Combat Show 27 in Brazil this weekend.
  • Shout out to Hayabusa Training Centre who recently moved to a brand new building across the lot of the previous facility. The new training centre is nearly double in size (5,000 sq/ft) and now has a weight room to go with the cage, mats, bags etc as well.
  • MAS student Ashley Nichols won the World Professional Muay Thai Federation Super Flyweight title in Bangkok, Thailand last week with a decision win over Saifar Sor.Sparat during the prestigious Prince’s Cup tournament. You can read more about that HERE.  Congrats to Ashley and coach Chris Kew.

  4. How does Tim Shady go from fighting a stud like hordecki to a local club fighter like, why bother with Rother, what does he have to gain from that? oh I know, sunny will not fly anybody in and shady is guaranteed to retain his cracker jacks cardboard belt! lol. Diesel ultra lounge!!! 3 dollar Patron!!!! and Robbie on the mike. lol

  7. Sure there are lots of fight options for big Tim chemilli, but if you think fighting No Show valimaki is one of them, then you must be getting into BOOBOOS stash again. like victor is actually gonna train hard then make the 6 hour trip to Grand Prairie, I am sure sure he will find a myriad of excuses not to show up come fight time.

I got love for Da Tappa but really, trying out for TUF? The guy is 4-2 and hasnt fought anyone. His last fight was in 2010 when he beat Shannon the Can Rich. I mean cool, if he wants to give it a shot for shits and giggles but really? Da Tappa in the UFC? Come on.

  12. @MMA Fans, HEY!HEY!HEY!, Don’t put down Neil fists of Steel Doty, you obviously were not at the last show when he destroyed Brent the Gdup phenom and protégé Haley!!I can definitely see Neil challenging for the belt after this fiasco!!

Bussemaker is only one left at kp they gotta try and do something with him like they did shady! Doubt hell go just like the last 3 cards he was suppose to fight on

  15. Cody Rempel says:

I’m pretty sure the Rother vs. Anderson fight was a #1 contender bout and I’m sure most people expected Anderson to get the win, Rother has won 4 in a row by KO or TKO, granted two of them were Shirt and Constant but Anderson is a very good win and Doty isn’t as bad as you guys are making him out to be!

    Well-loved! Thumb up 8 Thumb down 1

  16. The synopsis for the shady vs rother fight will be similar in replay to the merrick duggen fight with the only difference being rother doesn’t bitch slap, regardless the end product will be the same. The way I see shady being tossed around and owned at Busa tells me he will never elevate himself beyond the realm of local club fighter, if he had any delusions otherwise they were only that, delusions of grandeur. Congrats to luke harris on the new training center,we now have a new cage ,matts, weights to go along with our new grappling dummy we call, Tim shady smith. lol

  17. Big Pun says:

There are a lot more professional grappling dummies at your gym then that

  18. If shady wanted to truly redeem himself after the hordecki fight he would challenge himself to the only righteous heir to the 155 lb throne, that being the uncrowned champion Mr. Big Bad himself!.But no that would never happen as long as sunny is morbidly afraid of loseing his number one money maker. on a more lighter note the only piece of equipment Busa is missing is one of those marcus hicks punching bags, but I guess there hard to come by seeing that he is barred from every legit gym in the city. lol

  19. Donald Duck says:

The problem with the Marcus Hicks punching bag though is its consistency. Sometimes its there, sometimes its missing and other times it breaks right before you want to use it.

The worse part is listening to it after a session and hearing why it failed to do what it was suppose to do.

    Well-loved! Thumb up 16 Thumb down 2

  20. Micky Mouse says:

To bad there wasn’t a Donald Duck punching bag. If there was you would have to watch out for the low blows.

  21. MMA Nerds says:

Marcus hicks is beyond a sorry excuse for a pro fighter. I bet you he owes people more money than he’s made fighting. He’s a very manipulative rude prick.

I have bin following the Canadian fight scene for some time now and Tim SHADY is a BAD ASS FIGHTER!! I’m not sure but i believe that he has 25 fights and he has never missed weight once, every single fight that i have bin to win, loss or draw he has shown tons of respect and he always come to fight, the dude’s exciting and has a warriors heart and would fight anybody. In my opinion tim shady is a definition of a true martial artist. with his change of leaving kamazaki punishment and training with the elite at the hayabusa training center look to see tim shady in the top 10 in the next year.

  26. blue belt says:

    War shady, good luck guy!
How exactly gun vs deroches a fotn candidate? No offense to deroches but he’s a lw who has beaten absolutely nobody and will likely get steam rolled by gun in less then 1 round.
Does anybody know if ufc pays for the medicals for ontario fighters or is it on the fighter?

Thumb up 1 Thumb down 5

  27. MMA Nerds says:

Tim Smith left CMC to go to Busa.

CMC is a pretty elite gym in my opinion.

However gyms don’t make the fighter coaches do.

  28. RickRoll says:

Chemelli would have to be a moron to sign to fight Valimaki and put in all that work for nothing. Valimaki is washed up and he wont show up. He pulls out of every fight. Im not big on Chemelli vs Lewis rematch but at least Lewis has the heart to show up and compete. Chemelli, do yourself a favor and dont sign to fight Valimaki unless you want to train for 8 wks with no fight.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 1

  29. The promoter for the Chemelli vs valimaki fight better have bobby Ks number on speed dial along with a prepaid greyhound bus ticket, cause mine along with many others premonition is that valimaki wont show up. was anybody surprised? Oh well we the fans will be treated to chemelli vs Special K 2. I can hardly wait!!

  30. Lenny wheeler says:

Mattdesroches has four Ammy fights all wins by tko, one fight at 205 the rest at 185 and I think in his pro he has one fight at ww one at lhw and the rest middle, he did a 160 catch his last fight and steam rolled Marcus Davis best student. Desroches finishes gun. In the first or early second by tko.

  34. Cody Rempel says:

Just stating the facts, Tim Smith was full time at Kamikaze and did one training camp at CMC, he’s never been full time down there!

…and yes I train at Hayabusa and I love it there but please point our where I’ve been biased against other gyms on here!

Much respect to Cody.R & his team at Top MMA News.

To touch base on this Shady topic I have been asked to explain a few things on behalf of KP.

Shady is a vet of the sport and we had a wonderful time with him in the gym & outside the gym as well. Fighters come and fighters go it’s really not such a bad thing that fighters switch up camps. We are 100% supportive towards Shady and his efforts to improve himself. We wish him nothing but the best with his new camp as they do have some top talent in the room and we really do hold Roger in high regards. Nothing but positive energy moving forward as we truthfully don’t support any negative bashing or any gyms or camps. Each to there own every gym is beneficial in their own way.

Stay fit have fun and enjoy the sport.

Can someone please dig up the story on Lew Polley for apparently weigh in 30lbs heavy.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  38. Cody Rempel says:

There isn’t really much insight on why or any other info other than he missed the Light Heavyweight limit by 32lbs and they didn’t even attempt an official weigh in, he is expected to be released from WSOF… I would love to hear what Lew Polley has to say about this.

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 0

  39. Kyle Stoltz says:

Anyone think that he knew the fight would be called off if he missed by that much so either didn’t want to fight or wanted to get released by WSOF. Just a thought.

  40. MMA says:

    Strange situation.

    Poor decision regardless
