Rumour: Tito Jones to Get MFC Bantamweight Title Shot
Although nothing is confirmed, it looks like Tito Jones will face Anthony Birchak at MFC 38 on October 4 in Edmonton, Alberta , although mum’s the word from Maximum Fighting Championship president Mark Pavelich.
While not naming the promotion, opponent, or the exact date, one can read between the lines in Jones’ recent Facebook status as the Maximum Fighting Championship is the sole Canadian promotion on HDNet and has a show in October:
Just got confirmation that my next fight will be in Oct. in the bantamweight class 135lbs…. looks like I’ll have a couple pounds to shed off lol!!! Waiting for my contract before I can make a full announcement but I’ll say this much, “Title shot, Hdnet televised, Canada ” :)
The obviously excited Jones (10-6) has not previously competed in the MFC ring but he is coming into the bout on a three fight winning streak. The Sacramento fighter defeated Larry DiGiulio in his most recent fight by split decision. Jones also defeated the previously unbeaten Deven Jones with a quick KO at AFC 9 in June 2012.
Jones’ opponent, pending contract signing, would logically be Anthony Birchak (10-1). Birchak is confirmed for the October event and defeated Ryan Benoit at MFC 37 in his only appearance for the organization. Birchak’s unanimous decision victory in that May 2013 was his fourth in a row and the fight was one of the most exciting Maximum Fighting Championship bouts in recent memory.
Top MMA News contacted Mark Pavelich who would not confirm the rumoured bout.
