Not So Sweet Visa Issues Force Tweet Out Of Invicta FC 6
Sadly visa issues have forced Charmaine Tweet to with draw from her Invicta FC 6 bout with Ediane Gomes. Tweet’s withdrawal and replacement were first announced by MMAjunkie.com this morning. Tweet who was originally an injury replacement for fellow Canadian Julia Budd after Budd was forced out due to a neck injury.
Tweet’s camp released the following statement:
With Charmaine taking the fight on short notice, her P1 Athlete Visa was not able to clear the proper channels in time . Normally this would have never been an issue , however there are somethings going on with Immigration reform in the USA and things have been a bit tighter and slower moving then normal… even for a Canadian . Both Invicta & Charmaine’s camp thought we had things covered, but unfortunately it just wasn’t possible once we got to the USA Border. This being said Invicta FC and their team worked feverishly with Team Tweet for about 12 hours yesterday to clear this matter up. Charmaine would like apologize to Ediane, our fans & our sponsors & friends who were all set to watch this amazing fight. Charmaine will be working with Invicta to make sure the proper paper work is in place within the next couple of weeks and is looking forward to making her debut on Invicta 7. Thank you to all the kind words of support from everyone .
Charmaine wishes Ediane Gomes the best this weekend and was glad that Tamikka Brents was able to step up at the last minute to take this fight . This will still be a fan favourite fight. And we will be watching from Canada.
Replacing Tweet against the vicious 10-2 Gomes is Tamikka Brents. Brents, splits her time training between Warrior Concepts and 5 Knuckles MMA, may only be 2-0 as a pro but has a very extensive amateur record rounding out at 8-0-1-1 .
Gomes, a product of ATT, is ranked as high as the number 2 Featherweight on most WMMA rankings and holds notable victories over the likes of Leslie Smith, Katalina Malungahu and Hiroko Yamanaka.
Invicta FC 6 goes down July 13th from the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri and is main evented by Marloes Coenen vs Chirstiane “Cyborg” Justino for the Invicta FC Featherweight title.
