Gagnon vs. Kimura Added to UFC 165
Canada’s 6th ranked Bantamweight will make his long awaited return to the cage when he meets the undefeated Dustin “The Diamond” Kimura at UFC 165. The match up was first announced by the UFC’s Canadian Twitter account yesterday afternoon.
When Gagnon finally steps into the Octagon on September 21st it’ll have been exactly 364 days since his last bout. Now all healthy and raring to return Gagnon will look to put on the performance of a lifetime in front of family and friends in Toronto as his hometown of Sudbury is just 2 hours away. Currently 1-1 in the UFC this will be an important match up for Gagnon as a 1-2 record could mean a pick slip while back to back wins could move him up on the next card and put more sponsorship dollars in his pocket.
Kimura, a member of Gracie Technics, made his UFC this past February submitting Chico Camus in the 3rd round of their UFC 156 scrap. A native of Honolulu, Hawaii with a glossy undefeated record Kimura has an impressive 90% finishing percentage with 7 of his 10 wins coming by way of submission.
UFC 165 goes down September 21st from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The card will feature a Light Heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson plus an interim Bantamweight Title match up between interim champion Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland.
