Havoc Fighting Championship 2 Play-by-Play

Havoc Logo

The event centre at the Sheraton Hotel in Red Deer Alberta was absolutely packed with fans for tonight show. It’s great to see this kind of support for a local promotion. The event ran smoothly and was well organized. The fans really got behind the fundraising for both the Canadian Cancer Society and the 50-50 draw for the Salvation Army Kids Camp.

  • KO of the Night – Jesse Arnett

Here is the Play-by-Play:

Josh Machan vs. John Fraser
Round 1: Both fighters are throwing bombs but neither fighter is really landing. When they clinch up Josh locks up a guillotine and pulls guard. From guard, Josh chokes John out in only a few seconds. Amazing!
Josh Machan submits John Fraser by Guillotine Choke in Round 1, 0:22

This man needs some sponsors!

Elvis Vukaj vs. Jeff Larkin
Round 1: Elvis lands a few kicks before Jeff times them and takes him down. Elvis stands right up though but Larkin is pins him up against the cage and forces Elvis to dirty box with him. Considering Elvis’ hand speed pinning him up against the cage is probably a good idea for Jeff. Larkin is lading shots but so is Elvis. Elvis slickly takes Larkin down with an inside leg trip and lands in top position. As Jeff stands back up Elvis jumps on his back and quickly sinks in a rear naked choke. Jeff resists for a few moments but is forced to tap.
Elvis Vukaj submits Jeff Larkin by Rear Naked Choke in Round 1, 2:37
Apparently choking Jeff out in training is near impossible so kudos to Elvis.

Jesse Arnett vs. Brent Harvie
Round 1: Both fighters look light on their feet and are showing really great movement.

The fighters are landing a lot of kicks to the body before they clinch up. In the clinch it’s Jesse driving the action but Brent was defending well before Jesse lands a knee to Brent’s groin. Referee Brian Beauchamp stops the action to let Brent recover. When the action resumes Brent charges forward with a combination and lands a few really hard hooks before he overcommits and Jesse takes him down with a well timed double leg. From top position in Brent’s guard Jesse is just brutalizing Brent with hammer strikes. Brent is not controlling Jesse’s posture at all from guard. Brent eventually recovers wrist control but gives it up to punch Jesse in the face from his back. Jesse ignores the strikes and punishes Brent with another flurry of elbows and hammer strikes. Brent was winning this fight on his feet but Jesse dominated him on the ground. Great fight!
Topmmanews scores the round 10-9 Jesse Arnett.

Round 2: Brent is looking gun shy at the beginning of the round and I don’t blame him. He finally lets go but Jesse evades and takes him down with a double leg landing in side control. Jesse opens Brent up with a nice elbow before Brent recovers guard. Brent throws up a triangle attempt but Jesse is wise to it, he shucks it off and starts reigning down more elbows. Brent is just a mess at this point. The referee stands the fighters up to call the doctor over. Brent doesn’t stand up which isn’t a good sign. The doctor clears Brent and surprisingly the action continues. Kudoos to Brent for not taking the easy way out of this fight. Despite the beating he is taking he is still attacking Jesse with strikes from bottom position. Jesse looks content to just hammer away though. Eventually referee Brian Beauchamp sees enough and stops the fight.
Jesse Arnett defeats Brent Harvie by TKO in Round 2, 4:16

Rick Pfeifer vs. Jared Silverthorn
Round 1: Jared throws a leg kick but Rick counters with a right straight that drops Jared. Rick is all over Jared landing a flurry of right hands from top position but Jared, still in the fight recovers and gets back to his feet. Rick takes Jared back down though with a slam. Rick is landing shots but he is not doing a lot of damage from top position. It looks like he is recovering from his earlier flurry. Jared scrambles back up but Rick just tosses back to the mat. Jared attempts an arm bar but Rick punishes him for the attempt with some vicious ground and pound. Jared gets up again but this time Rick is looking winded on his feet. Surprisingly Rick, undeterred by exhaustion takes Jared back down. This time the referee stands them up and Rick just keeps landing shots with his signature “ginger rage”. The fighters drop to the canvas and Jared locks in a guillotine. Rick rolls to defend but Jared has him and forces the tap just before the round ends. That was an amazing comeback!
Jared Silverthorn submits Rick Pfeifer by Guillotine Choke in Round 1, 4:52

Amateur MMA

Grayson Wells vs. Blaine Cust
Blaine is donating his proceeds from this fight to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Round 1: Grayson opens up with a leg kick but Blaine smoothly counters with a right straight. Grayson looks a lot more athletic than Blaine. Grayson lands a hard right hook that stuns Blaine but Grayson doesn’t follow him backwards. For some reason he seems content to let him recover. The action eventually resumes but Grayson lands a high kick to Blaine’s face which is an illegal technique under amateur rules. Adam Cheadle immediately stops the action, gives Blaine time to recover and docks a point from Grayson who was clearly winning the round up to that point. Grayson looks visibly annoyed when the action resumes. He moves in on Blaine and unleashes a huge combination of hooks that totally overwhelm Blaine. Blaine turtles up on his feet but he isn’t defending himself so the referee stops the fight.
Grayson Wells defeats Blaine Cust by TKO in Round 1, 1:56
Despite losing the fight Blaine Cust raised $10, 150.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Great work Blaine!

Kellen Falt vs. Justin Sander
Round 1: Justin ducks right under Kellen’s right hand with a double leg. He immediately picks Kellen up and drops him down with a huge thunderous slam. Justin looks a lot bigger that Kellen. From bottom position Kellen nearly sweeps Justin but Justin adjust his position and recovers half mount. Justin passes smoothly into side control and then to mount but Kellen eventually walks his way up the wall. Justin works for double underhooks and drops down again picking up Kellen and dropping him down with a huge slam. From mount Justin isolates an arm and locks in a tight arm triangle. Justin tries to pass to side control to finish the submission but the cage is in the way. The choke still looks really tight. Kellen is forced kick off the cage and give up his back in order to escape. Justin smoothly maintains position and transitions to a rear naked choke but the round ends before he can finish the submission. This round was almost a 10-8 round. Justin is on another level.
Topmmanews scores the round 10-9 Justin Sander.

Round 2: Justin pushes Kellen up against the cage and Kellen tries to lock in a a standing guillotine. Justin isn’t worried about it though. He just calmly picks up Kellen, walks him across the cage and slams him to the mat. Kellen tries to get back up but Justin jumps on his back and sinks in both hooks. Kellen rolls forward to try and shake him but Justin expertly rolls with him scoring a body lock in the process. Justin gets an arm under Kellen’s neck and taps him out with a rear naked choke.
Justin Sander submits Kellen Falt by Rear Naked Choke in Round 2, 1:08

Brett Alberts vs. Andrew Kloot
Round 1: Both fighters start off the round with caution circling around the cage, feeling each other out. Andrew soon rushes in with a combination that rocks Brett and he doesn’t let up. Brett stumbles into the cage and Andrew is all over him. Just as Brett starts to drop to his knees referee Adam Cheadle stops the fight.
Andrew Kloot defeats Brett Alberts by TKO in Round 1, 0:38

Ryan Williams vs. Patrick Mitchell
Round 1: Ryan immediately starts looking for a single leg takedown but loses his balance in the process and Patrick lands on top in side control. Eventually Ryan recovers a full closed guard and really locks up Patrick from bottom position preventing Patrick from opening up. That being said, Ryan would be better served by looking for a submission or to get up of bottom position. This was an easy round for Patrick. He cruised through the entire round in top position landing shots to Ryan’s body. Ryan did a decent job controlling Patrick with his guard but didn’t manage to score any submission attempts.
Topmmanews scores the round 10-9 Patrick Mitchell

Round 2: Patrick lands four or five great right hands as the round opens forcing Ryan to shoot in again for a single leg. Ryan drove patrick into the cage but fell backwards giving up top position to Patrick again. This time Patrick passes quickly into mount. From mount Patrick traps both of Ryan’s arms behind his head and started working for a kimura from mount. He eventually taps out Ryan with a really unusual submission from mount.
Patrick Mitchell submits Ryan Williams by Arm Bar in Round 2, 1:40

I’m confused about the amateur rules here. Wells just lost a point for a “kick to the face” but the first bout had some vicious knees to the head that were allowed…

Great win for Machan and an impressive way to tap a very durable Fraser. (Fraser hasn’t been finished since he fought at LW back in 2006)

Machan’s a beast at 145, tough fight for anyone at that weight class.

I think he’s 9-1 in his last 10 fights. Josh should really move up in the Canadian Rankings for the next edition.
