Alessio Signs With Bellator MMA

Alessio, Canada’s 5th ranked Lightweight, has come to terms with Bellator MMA and will debut in the season 9 Lightweight tournament. Alessio announced the news this past Friday on his facebook page and MMAjunkie confirmed the signing by speaking with Bellator officials.

John AlessioAlessio, a member of Xtreme Couture Vegas, was the first Canadians to challenge for an official UFC title when he met Pat Miletich at UFC 26 “Ultimate Field of Dreams” and also challenged Carlos Condit for the WEC Welterweight title. Prior to dropping to 155 pounds “The Natural” was a perennial top Canadian Welterweight gaining wins over Sean Pierson, Chris Clements and Andrew Buckland on top his spectacular international victories.

After a 7 fight win streak that stretched from 2009-2011 was broken by a disappointing TKO loss to Siyar Bahadurzada, Alessio made the decision to drop to Lightweight where he put together a 3-0 run before finally getting the long awaited call from the UFC. Alessio return to the UFC was a brief stint as he received his walking papers after back to back decision losses to Mark Bocek and Shane Roller. Alessio last fought at AFC 13 but an unintentional eye poke from Dave Mazany ended the fight via no contest in the first round. Before Alessio can make his Bellator debut he will need to secure a win over Tim Radcliffe  when they meet at  Global Warrior Challenge on June 29.
