May 21, 2013 – Michael Hill, undefeated in his pro career, returned to the Aggression Fighting Championship (AFC) cage on May 19th in Victoria to face Joel Powell in a much anticipated fight – with the winner moving one step closer to AFC’s welterweight title. After an exciting 3 round battle, Hill took a loss by split decision, pushing Hill’s record to 5-1 and Powell’s record to 7-3.View post

Powell will now take on Ryan Ford (20-4) for the coveted AFC Welterweight Belt on July 5, 2013 in Edmonton at AFC 19: Undisputed.

Michael Hill, an alumnus of The Ultimate Fighter 16, will move on to fight Advin Omic at AFC Stampede Fight Night in Calgary. Omic, who also fell prey to Joel Powell, currently holds a record of 12-3. Advin Omic says, “I lost to Powell too but I’ve done a lot better since then.” Since his loss to Powell in 2011, Omic has been on a winning streak taking wins for his last 6 fights. When asked how he is going to prepare for this match, Omic said, “I’m just training really hard, just like I do for all my fights. I think it’s a pretty evenly matched fight, [but] I plan on beating the crap out of Michael Hill.”

Steve Fader, President of AFC, says of Hill, “we are excited to have him fight for us again after his loss to Powell. He showed massive heart in this fight, and his willingness to compete again so quickly proves why he belongs with Canada’s number one promotion.” Fader adds, “we respect fighters with good attitude that live to compete, if you’re loyal to the AFC, then we are loyal to you.”

AFC’s Stampede Fight Night will take place at the Telus Convention Center in Calgary on July 12th, 2013.

Quick turn around for Hill! Watching him fight against Powell was fun, to bad he wasn’t able to pop back up after those takedowns!

@Keith Grienke “Would like to see Westcott enter the fray with the other top Canadians there.”

God forbid that would happen Keith. God. Forbid.

Where is Derek Medler in all this WW action?

I got Omic with the sub vicotry here as well.

  8. Don't Call Me Leon says:

Medler is healing up his knee… If Powell couldn’t submit Hill I don’t see Omic doing so, not because lack of talent but Hill does a great job of avoiding those real threatening submissions!

    Could be another Split Decision!

  9. Jamie Locke says:

The only sub he really got close to with Hill was the RNC as he was riding his back for the entire first two rounds, it was surprising that he couldn’t get the finish. I guess we have to give credit to Hill for hand fighting well.

I think Omic has demonstrated a wider variety of submission skills and will attack those submissions more on the mat rather than dominate and control as Powell did.

It’s a great fight either way, and very cool to see Hill getting right back in the cage after his first defeat.
