ufc-on-fox1 THUMBAs originally reported by Vancouver based newspaper, The Province, Rory MacDonald (14-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) will take on Jake Ellenberger (29-6 MMA, 8-2 UFC) in a battle between two of the UFC’s hottest prospects and contenders. The bout is set to take place on UFC on Fox 8 on July 27th at Seattle, Washington’s KeyArena.

The bout will be Rory “Ares” MacDonald first bout of 2013.  The 23 year old Tristar product was forced to withdraw from his UFC 158 scheduled contest with Carlos Condit due to a neck injury.  MacDonald, Canada’s #2 ranked welterweight, enters this UFC on Fox 8 fight on a 4 fight winning streak, with his last victory coming over B.J. Penn in dominating fashion.

Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger comes into his bout with MacDonald on a 2 fight win streak.  The 28 year old Reign MMA fighter knocked out Nate Marquardt in very impressive fashion in his last fight at UFC 158 in Montreal, earning him a knock out of the night performance bonus.

With Josh Hendricks set to be Georges St-Pierre’s next title challenger, this match up between MacDonald and Ellenberger could very likely secure the challenger in waiting spot for the winner of the contest.

What happens if Rory wins this? A move to MW or Condit rematch maybe…

A loss would for sure mean Condit rematch.

Either way eventually Rory will earn a shot and then what? He comes across like he has an ego the size of a freight train, if this is the case I’m sure he’ll find a way to damage his Tristar relationships…
