(AFC Press Release)

After a very successful debut in the MMA hungry city of Winnipeg Manitoba last September, the AFC will return with AFC 16 “Uprising” Saturday March 23 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

This event will make history for Canadian MMA as for the first time one promotion will be hosting 2 events on the same night, as AFC 17 “Anarchy” will be taking place simultaneously in Edmonton AB. This one night fans will also see 2 new champions crowned in their respected main events. As well as multiple number one contender fights. With both events coming 1 week after AFC 15 “The Ides” March 15 in Calgary AB and with 14 scheduled events for 2013, the Aggression Fighting Championship is truly becoming an MMA juggernaut and the only national brand in the country.

This Winnipeg event will be headlined by AFC’s inaugural World Bantamweight Title Fight where Winnipeg’s own Curtis Brigham 11-5 takes on Kelowna’s Mike Adams 7-1 for the right to be crowned Champion. In the co-main event for the first time ever, Winnipeg fight fans will witness fellow Manitoban and recent UFC competitor Nick Penner 11-3 compete in his home province. Other local fighters appearing on the card are Louis Fisette 5-1, Jarod Milko 6-2, Chris Stranger 5-2, Lindsey Hawkes 7-7, Aaron Shmyr 4-2, Mark Durant 3-2, Dwight Sutherland 5-4, Cory Houston 4-3, Jon Henderson 2-2, Travis Gervais 2-0, Mariusz Ksiazkiewicz 2-0, Vyron Phillips 1-0.

With an estimated 12 fights on the card fans can expect to see the best fighters Canada has to offer. With our exciting up and coming talent with a mix of proven skilled veterans, this will make for a great night of fights brought to you for a reasonable price.

Hill was the Champion of Aggression MMA, after the merger we have become Aggression Fighting Championship (AFC) and currently the only champion under our banner is Shane Campbell @155. We are rolling out titles this year. The 135 on this card and the same night in Edmonton the 205 title. The 145 title fight will be coming up fairly quick then followed by 170 and 185. Currently no plans for HW title as lack if depth in that division. Hope that clears up our title situation. Hill definitely is the #1 135er in Canada and that’s what we striving for the best of the best competing for our titles. They need to be part if our future plans and we truly want them all the earn the right to fight for the title in the AFC. Not always going to be possible but we are going to do our best.

Man Brigham vs Adams is going to be the best fight ever. Possibly the best fight of 2013 I would dare to say!

  7. Louis Fisette says:

Although i was hoping to fight for this very same title, there is no better man that this opportunity could go to! Curtis is a true pioneer of the sport and I consider him a great friend! This is by no means an easy fight for him, but I think we will see a new Curtis Brigham come March 23rd! Im just hoping there is enough time after my fight for me to watch this awesome scrap!

  8. Darren Owen says:

Fisette vs Fryia will serve as a #1 contender fight. There will obviously be a problem if both Fisette and Brigham both come out on top but if any other situation occurs we’ve got our first 135 title defence lined up.

  9. Don't Call Me Leon says:

Well maybe if both Fisette and Brigham win, Louis will drop to 125? There’s some developing Canadian talent at 125!

I thought Adam Lorenz might be on one of the March fights. Is he hurt? Thought Top MMA News wrote a while back that he signed a deal when Spencer went to MFC.

  15. Gregory says:

Penners just hype and that’s the reason why he never made it anywhere in the ufc. Hes back local where he belongs. Heavyweight is going to make him even slower. He would never make it anywhere but manitoba. To bad. Funny how he’s got no opponent. I bet he drops out like he’s done several times before.

  16. Zach B says:

@@^^ you guys really have no idea how good Penner is ! This site has become such garbage with all you trolls coming in and bashing fighters ( turning into old sherdog) .

  17. Tyrone says:

I think the only guy in Canada who hates penner is pavelich. Rightfully so, penner exposed him for the scum he is

So Gregory-aka pavelich, good luck watching one of Canada’s top fighters in one of Canada’s top promotions (along side the score of course)

  18. Karate Kid says:

Penner is as good as you Zach Blaber, that i know. Everything I said is true, check your facts. I guess I do know a lot more than you

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 2 Thumb down 10

  19. Wisers says:

Penner is a killer. Always was and always has been. May not be 100% after his surgery but he is still a force if he were to continue competing

His Facebook says he’s retiring fom mma after this fight. Good luck in your future endeavours, you were always a class act and a great role modal for the sport
