UFC officials announced late Friday night that John “The Bull” Makdessi is set to face off with Daron “The Detroit Superstar” Cruickshank in a Lightweight bout at UFC 158 in Montreal, Quebec. Makdessi joins fellow Canadians Rory MacDonald, Patrick Cote and Jordan Mein as well as a Welterweight Title fight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz.

Makdessi will look to make it two in a row after stopping a two fight skid with a unanimous decision victory over fellow Canadian Sam Stout at UFC 154, also in Montreal. Makdessi opened his UFC career with a pair of wins over Pat Audinwood and Kyle Watson before dropping consecutive contests to Dennis Hallman and Anthony Njokuani. Makdessi has finished seven of his ten victories by way of knockout including a highlight reel spinning back fist over Kyle Watson at UFC 129.

Daron Cruickshank enters the fight on a six fight win streak, including a pair inside the Octagon over Chris Tickle and Henry Martinez following a stint on The Ultimate Fighter Live. Cruickshank was eliminated in the Preliminary round by James Vick. Cruickshank will also carry a three fight win streak against Canadians into the Lightweight contest having previously defeated Brad Cardinal, Mike Ricci and Jesse Gross consecutively in 2011. With seven of his twelve wins coming by way of strikes this should prove to be a sure candidate for fight of the night.
