The Predator Gets Vicious For UFC 158
When Alessio Sakara pulled out of their UFC 158 rematch Patrick Cote knew this was a sign. After 12 months of discussing the potential weight drop to 170 lbs with his coaches, Cote finally knew this was the time. Now “The Predator” will attempt another run, this time at Welterweight and he starts in his own backyard at UFC 158 against Strikforce veteran Bobby “Vicious” Voelker. This match up was originally announced by TVAsports.ca then widely spread via twitter courtesy of @UFC_CA
@patrick_cote confirmed for welterweight bout at #UFC158 against Bobby Voekler http://tvasports.ca/combats/amm/cote-souhaitera-la-bienvenue-voekler-21122012 ”
Cote (18-8), returns after a disappointing DQ win over Alessio Sakara at UFC 154. Besides another disappointing loss to Cung Le at UFC 148, Cote has gone 5-1 in his last 6 fights with wins over Kalib Starnes, Crafton Wallace and Gustavo Machado. This will be Cote’s first time competeing at Welterweight in MMA. The big question will be will his punching power and granite chin carry down to 170 lbs.
Voelker (24-8), a Strikeforce veteran who’s best known for his amazing trilogy with Roger Bowling which “Vicious” ultimately won TKOing Bowling in the last two fights. He has gone 4-1 inside the Strikeforce cage but has not fought since he TKO’d Bowling in July 2011. Can Voelker shake off the ring rust and spoil Cote’s Welterweight debut?
