Pure Fighting Championship 10 – Recap – Davidson, Davis, Imperato and Hicks Victorious

Pure Fighting Championship held their 10th event in front of a packed house at the Westerner Park, Prairie Pavilion in Red Deer, Alberta last night.

  • Fight of the Night – Marcus Hicks vs. Brandon MacArthur
  • Knockout of the Night – Jayson Pyper
  • Submission of the Night – Michael Imperato

Clay Davidson vs. Caleb Grummet
Davidson ducks a jab from Grummet and gets the double leg to half guard. Davidson moves to side control lands some elbows to the body and passes to full mount. Davidson looks for a guillotine briefly but Grummet pulls his head out and looks for a sweep. Davidson traps his arm and lands about half a dozen hard shots. Davidson works for a kimura from half guard and Grummet sweeps but gets caught in a guillotine and this time is unable to free himself from the vice like grip and is forced to tap.

Tyler Davis vs. Mark Maruzs
Round 1: Davis lands a leg kick and they trade shots before Davis lands another leg kick and follows up with one to the body. Davis secures the clinch and lands some knees while Maruzs connects with some body shots and they trade some more knees. They separate and Davis lands another leg kick before shooting for the double against the cage. Davis can’t get him to the mat and they tie up briefly before breaking apart and trading shots. Davis looks for another takedown and gets around the back and lands some shots as Maruzs works back to his feet and they tie up. Davis lands some more knees and connects with a right. Davis again looks for the double and finally gets it when he trips the leg but again Maruzs pops back up. Davis takes the back on the feet and lands some solid elbows. Round 2: Both men open the second looking to find the range before Davis lands a front kick followed by an inside leg kick. Maruzs looks for a takedown this time but Davis stuffs it and looks for a single of his own and gets to the back. Maruzs is quickly able to get back to his feet and they trade shots. Davis gets another double leg trip and Maruzs again pops back up and looks for a standing kimura. Davis works his way around the back and lands a knee before releasing and getting the single and finally keeps him down and takes the back. Davis works for a rear naked choke and tries to slip his arm under the chin in between landing punches. Davis tries one more time for the rear naked choke but Maruzs is able to peel the hand off and survive the round. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Davis

Round 3: They go back and forth with leg kicks to open the round and Maruzs connects with a right. Davis responds with a double against the cage and drags him to the ground. Maruzs gets back to his feet and Davis looks to get to the back but quickly breaks away. They trade punches and Davis secures the clinch and lands some knees before releasing and landing a leg kick. Maruzs responds with another solid right and Davis goes for another takedown and again Maruzs gets back to his feet. They lock up and exchange body shots and Maruzs lands another right. Davis shoots for a takedown and Maruzs avoids it but Davis stays with him and gets the ankle pick. Maruzs tries to stand back up but Davis drags him back down and takes the back. Davis looks for the rear naked choke but release and lands punches before going back to the choke. Davis releases again and is content to land punches until the final horn sounds. Peter Neufeld vs. Steve Dittrich
Round 1: They feel each other out before Neufeld starts landing jabs and blocks a high kick. Neufeld connnects with a solid left and a pair of rights. Dittrich lands an inside leg kick and Neufeld sticks some jabs. Neufeld begins picking him apart, landing jabs at will followed by a leg kick and a hard right. Dittrich shoots for the takedown but Neufeld defends and gets on top himself. Neufeld rains down some punches but gets caught in an armbar attempt. Dittrich goes belly down and it looks deep but Neufeld is able to work his way out and get back into the guard. Neufeld lands a crushing elbow and a few shots just before the bell sounds. Round 2: They exchange leg kicks and Neufeld sticks a jab followed by another. The left eye of Dittrich is beginning to swell from all the shots and he blocks a high kick. Neufeld connects again and lands a big right right that wobbles Dittrich. Neufeld follows up with a huge uppercut that drops him and finishes with a flurry of punches that prompt referee Brian Beauchamp to step in and call a halt to the contest.

Ryan Brigham vs. Michael Imperato
Imperato lands a jumping body kick and follows up with a huge double leg slam to side control. Imperato passes to full mount, pulls up the head and looks for a triangle choke. Imperato rolls and locks it in forcing the quick tap from Brigham.

Brandon MacArthur vs. Marcus Hicks
Round 1: MacArthur misses a wild shot and then lands one. Hicks responds with a leg kick and MacArthur comes back with one of his own. MacArthur connects with a combo followed by some nice jabs. MacArthur connects with a front kick and a flurry of punches. MacArthur connects with a left followed by another combo and Hicks responds with a big right. MacArthur with another crisp combo and grazes him with a head kick. Hicks lands a leg kick and a combo. MacArthur gets the clinch and works the body followed by some knees. They tie up and exchange some more knees and Hicks breaks away and connects with a leg kick. Hicks comes forward with a combo but MacArthur unloads on him with a big flurry of punches. Round 2: MacArthur connects and they trade heavy punches. Hicks lands a double jab followed by a leg kick and another stiff jab. MacArthur lands a left and Hicks responds with big punches followed by body shots that bring MacArthur to the ground. MacArthur looks for an armbar but Hicks pulls out and lands some huge hammerfists. Hicks is relentless with the ground and pound and drives devestating elbows and punches into the skull of MacArthur until referee John Braak has seen enough and steps in to rescue MacArthur from any further punishment.

Brent Harvie vs. Rob Santos
Round 1: Prior to the fight they stare each other down and referee John Braak has to step between them to keep them from starting early. They trade leg kicks to open the fight and Santos lands a bog combo before they tie up against the cage. Santos dumps him to the mat and takes the back looking for a rear naked choke but Harvie is able to escape back to his feet. They again tie up against the cage and Santos gets the single to half guard, postures up and lands some lefts. Harvie tries to push him off but Santos stays tight and keeps landing. Harvie looks for an armbar from the bottom but Santos escapes and gets Harvie into his guard. Harvie lands a few little shots as the round comes to an end. Round 2: Harvie lands a front kick followed by a body kick and they tie up. Santos drops for a single but Harvie defends before Santos is finally able to pull him down and lands in full guard. Harvie connects with an elbow from the bottom before Santos goes to work and lands some shots. After some inactivity, Braak stands them back up and Santos lands a combo before they tie up again. Harvie lands rights followed by knees to the body and a big knee to the head for good measure. Harvie gets the takedown to half guard and lands some short elbows. Harvie drops back for an armbar but has his back against the cage. Harvie drops a spike like elbow to the midsection followed by a few big hammerfists and is able to get some space and sit back to lock in the armbar and forces the tap.

Jayson Pyper vs. Kellen Falt
Pyper lands a push kick followed by a huge left that flattens Falt and knocks him out prompting referee Bryan Beauchamp to step in and prevent any further punishment. Very good stoppage by Beauchamp.

Tyler Illerbrun vs. Tony Chin
Round 1: Chin lands a leg kick and they trade punches before tying up against the cage. Illerbrun lands shots and gets the takedown. Chin sweeps but Illerbrun looks for a triangle before switching to an armbar. Illerbrun loses position and Chin begins working for a rear naked choke with a body triangle. Chin pounds away at the body before flattening him out. Chin continues working the body as strikes to the head of a grounded oppoenent are not permitted in this amateur bout. Chin makes a last ditch effort for an armbar but time runs out. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Chin

Round 2: Illerbrun throws some sloppy punches and they tie up against the cage. Chin looks for the takedown but Illerbrun sprawls and they stayed locked up against the cage. Illerbrun lands body shots and Chin responds with some knees to the body. Illerbrun goes back to the body shots and follows up with some hard rights. They exchange some more knees to the body and Chin looks for a takedown but Illerbrun stays on his feet and unleashes a barrage of punches against the cage. Chin connects with a knee and Illerbrun caps the round off with a few more shots. Top MMA News scores the round 10-9 for Illerbrun

Round 3: Chin lands a leg kick and Illerbrun responds with a big right and a hard leg kick before tying him up on the cage. Chin lands a knee and Illerbrun connects with three solid rights followed by a leg kick and a knee. Illerbrun works the body with a pair of hard shots followed by a body kick.     hey steve i’m a fellow OSPer but also a blog stelakr of yours i was at the seminar yesterday as well but i didnt get the chance to introduce myself as I headed out a bit before the final chat started (during happy hour) i had a 2 hour drive back to Boston hopefully i’ll catch up with you the next time theres a seminar like this it was such a great experience! loved your first dance’ too!! haha hope today finds you well blessings, Keri
