Rousey Trades in Strikeforce Title for UFC Model; Defends Feb 23
The UFC announced that Ronda Rousey (6-0) will make her UFC debut on February 23 in Anaheim, California. The newly minted UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion will make her defense at UFC 157 in the main event agaisnt Liz Carmouche (7-2) as announced by UFC president Dana White today.
“In the UFC, February 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. (Ronda Rousey) will be fighting Liz Carmouche, and she is the main event.”
The former Strikeforce champion (and one time Hard Knocks Fighting Championship fighter) stated at today’s UFC press conference that women will be in the UFC for the long haul.
“I think the women are here to stay and I want to prove it,” said Rousey.
Why Liz Carmouche?
“That’s who wanted to fight her,” said Dana White. “People aren’t kicking the door down at Zuffa wanting to fight (Rousey).”
Also expected to headline on the card is a contender fight between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida.
