Menjivar Set for Rematch With Faber at UFC 157
Ivan Menjivar is set to take on Urijah Faber in a rematch from their 2006 bout in the now defunct TKO promotion. Faber will be looking to exact some revenge after their first bout ended when Menjivar landed an illegal kick and gave Faber the victory by disqualification. MMA Weekly is reporting that verbal agreements are in place for UFC 157 in Anaheim, California.
Menjivar enters the bout on the strength of a Submission of the Night win over Azamat Gashimov at UFC 154 in Montreal. The #2 Ranked Canadian Bantamweight is riding a 5-2 stretch since coming out of retirement in 2010 after nearly 4 years away from the sport with wins over Charlie Valencia, Nick Pace and John Albert, the latter of which also earned him a Submission of the Night. “The Pride of El Salvador” also holds notable wins earlier in his career over the likes of Jeff Curran, Joe Lauzon and Hideo Tokoro.
Faber’s last Octagon appearance came in an unsuccessful bid for the Interim Bantamweight Title against Renan Barao at UFC 149 in Calgary. “The California Kid” has hit a rough patch in his MMA career over the last four years going 5-5 since 2008, although all five losses were for either UFC or WEC Championship belts. Faber opened his professional career with an impressive 21-1 record, collecting the KOTC Bantamweight Title and the WEC Featherweight Title along the way.
