SLAMM 1 Weigh-In Results

Weigh-ins for November 29th’s first SLAMM event took place Thursday afternoon at the Maritime Plaza Hotel in downtown Montreal, Quebec. Sixteen fighters stepped on to the scales, with all sixteen hitting their contracted weight.

The event, promoted by the Interbox group in association with Tristar, is headlined by Montreal’s Alex Garcia (7-1, 170.5 lbs), fighting for the first time since an October 2011 34-second KO win. Sidelined for much of 2012 by a knee injury, the promising Tristar Welterweight returns Saturday to face Stéphane Lamarche (8-12, 169.1lbs), winner in only one of his last six fights.

The evening’s co-main event features rising Quebec Lightweight Olivier Aubin-Mercier (2-0, 156.0 lbs), a former member of Canada’s national Judo team. The 23 year-old looks to keep his perfect record against Jordan Jewell (2-1, 154.8 lbs), who last saw action in 2006.

The card also features the pro debut of several promising amateur prospects, including Aiemann Zahabi (0-0, 134.9 lbs), younger brother of Tristar head trainer Firas Zahabi, Dominic Trépanier (0-0, 170.8 lbs), Mario Pereira (0-0, 145.9 lbs), and Mandel Nallo (0-0, 155.1 lbs).

The evening’s card also feature the in-cage return of multi-faceted Canadian MMA personality Robin Black (3-5, 135.2 lbs), who looks to bounce back from losses in his two previous bouts.

Best known for their long-running association with Romanian-Canadian Super Middleweight boxing sensation Lucian Bute (31-1), SLAMM 1 marks the first foray into MMA for the Interbox promotion.

It would be nuts is Kyle Vivian landed a shot and won this fight. Doubt it’s going to happen. But what if it did?

Good luck to Mr. Black. To hell with Roy Nelson, Robin is the everyday man’s superstar!

As for Kyle Vivian, it might be bad video quality, but i’ve found some footage of his game plan:

“Alex Garcia is a great welterweight”. He trains with gsp blah blah blah. the things we hear about in the media, we get it he’s good. Apparently the next big thing.
Why give him an insignificant match-up. If you’re hyping this guy to be great, why put him in a low level, record padding card against someone that he’ll most likely steam roll? This fight is not going to make people say, “wow, this guy really is the next big thing.” It;s going to make people say, Who cares? Who cares if Garcia beat an Under .500 Lamarche? Who cares that Zahabi beat the shit out of a 0-5 BUM who wouldn’t beat his way out of a wet paper bag with a machette.
This card is one big conflict of interest. One of the biggest gyms in MMA puts on a card, putting their up and comers up against bums. Hope Garcia and Zahabi get KTFO!!!! Why? because this card is produced by scum bags!

  16. I don’t think Zahabi should be forced to fight some ex-UFC guy in his first MMA fight just because he has trained with a great camp for a long time. I have no problem with A.Z fighting Vivian even though it will be a short night for Vivian.

Now you may say ‘what about the fans?’. Well..the fans are there to see Aiemann win and will explode when he wins decisively.

Over/Under set at 1 minute. Any over/under predictions?

  18. Donald Duck says:

I kind of agree that this card should be more of a smoker style card than a full blown Professional Card.

Can’t wait for ‘pick up’ MMA Matches.

    That’s just my thought.
