Penner Welcomes Newcomer Mendez, Soszynski Off The Card at UFC on FX 6
Nick “The Quiet Assassin” Penner will make his return to the Octagon against newcomer Eddie Mendez at UFC on FX 6 in Gold Coast, Australia. The UFC announced the Light-Heavyweight clash late last night. The fight replaces another Light-Heavyweight fight, Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Ednaldo Oliveira which was removed from the card for undisclosed reasons. Penner vs. Mendez is expected to be a part of the preliminary portion of the card.
Canada’s 5th Ranked Light-Heavyweight will make his second appearance in the Octagon with his debut also taking place in the “Land Down Under” at UFC on FX 2 when he was stopped by Anthony Perosh late in the first round. Penner was then scheduled to take on Tom Deblass at UFC on Fuel 4 but was forced to pull out after an old injury flared up and required rehab. Prior to the loss, Penner was riding an 8 fight win streak, including 6 stoppages, Penner holds victories over the likes of Tim Chemelli, Ryan Fortin and Jared Kilkenny and Eric “Butterbean” Esch.
Mendez enters the UFC with a record of 7-1-1 (1 NC) and holds a win under the Strikeforce banner, defeating Fernando Gonzalez in a close split decision at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal last December. Mendez has stopped four of his seven fights and his only loss came to 8-1 Joe Williams in a 5 round decision for the Respect in the Ring Middleweight title.
Does Jimmo just get wiped off the card as well? He was suppose to step in to face Krzysztof Soszynski?
I haven’t heard anything about Jimmo being on this card.
Good fight for Penner!
Well-loved!
