  28. Don't Call Me Leon says:

Its unfortunate to hear about the stream issues but the start time wasn’t bad at all? Fights were all awesome (except for the obvious), Fisette of course for KO of the night and Perron for Sub of the night but hats off to Connelly vs Merola for fight of the night!

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 1

  29. Dean Panas says:

After the fight we told the AFC promoters that if they need an opponent for Southern in Edmonton Dave will step up and take the fight. I’m not sure how Campbell’s Muay Thai fight went down in Calgary and I’m not sure how bad Jonh’s eye is. However Mazany wants to commit to AFC and he is ready and willing if needed in Edmonton.

  30. Jamie Locke says:

Hey guys, I was cageside and will try and give you a break down from my POV.

    From bottom to top:

I’ve seen Steven Best around the BJJ scene at several tourney’s, the kid has great skills for sure, including a very decent bottom game. This fight though, he simply wasn’t able to implement his game and take Guy to the ground. Gautier on the other hand, dictated the pace and direction of this bout from the opening bell. Using his superior reach advantage, Guy both dominated the striking game and stuffed TD attempts from his opponent. On two different occasions Guy slammed down Best into his side control but stood back up acknowledging he didn’t want to deviate from his gameplan. Best picked it up in the third round with aggression and cage control. Utilizing his clinch and landing holding on tight he won the round, but didn’t do enough to win the fight. I scored it 29-28 for Guy Gautier, as did the other judges.

I’ve seen both Johnny Two Feathers and Dillon Brown fight many times before. Dillon Brown has been consistently improving as a very well rounded fighter. Using stellar TD’s Dillon has always dominated opponents, this fight was no different. Dillon came forward early looking to set up the takedown with a jab. He succeed, quickly took the back and submitted Two Feathers. Dillon should be pro the next time we see him IMO, lets hope his camp sees the same potential and the AFC introduces him to the LW pro ranks. Taking nothing away from Johnny, he’s always entertaining and I’m sure we’ll see him back in action.

I said this after the last show – Believe the hype! Alexi Argyriou does not look like an amateur fighter, every strike, faint, slip, takedown and guard pass looked like he could be competing and winning at the professional level. In round 1, both fighters demonstrated incredible skill, but Alexi had the upper hand with control, aggression and some damaging blow landing in his favor. Sealing the deal with a guillotine in round two, Alexi showed that there isn’t much competition out there at the amateur level for him. What is the deal with that MFC contract? Will we be able to see Alexi have his pro debut at home?
Myles Anstead vs Bill Fraser wasn’t much to write about. Bill did just enough to not get hurt and Myles simply didn’t do enough to finish the fight. Bill’s defence on the ground was his saving grace, as Myles controlled throughout the bout. An inadvertant headbut was the only bleamish keeping Myels from earning a 30-27 UD.

Myles Merola vs Tristan Connelly was hands down FOTN! These guys put on a great show! I gave Tristan the upper hand in the stand up, even credited him with the first round (although he was working off his back for just over two minutes), but Myles was successful in several TD’s and managed to grind out winning the second two rounds. Tristan came close to finishing the fight in late in the third by taking Myles’ back and coming close to an rnc. Although Tristan is always exciting, Myles takes home a UD victory. I am sure we’ll see both these warriors putting on more FOTN’s in the future!

Moving up the card, Ryan Janes vs Keto Allen was a fight a lot of die hards in BC were excited for. Janes is a hot ZUMA prospect who hasnèt been as active as many have hoped. Keto Allen would be his biggest step up, and everyone knows Keto brings a lot of strength and skill to the table. Keto opened up with some beautiful straight punches, connecting with Janesès face and pushing him back. Janes controlled the round in the clinch against the cage, but didnèt land any damaging blows, Keto blocked many knees with his back against the cage, and also landed several body shots and short uppercuts in the process. The round was slow but I gave the upper hand to Keto with his connecting punches in the open ring stand-up. Rounds two and three saw Janes control the pace, action and location of the fight. Janes had Keto in trouble a few times, but just couldn’t get the connections to finish the fight. I scored the fight 29-28 Janes.

David Perron definitely had the loudest fans in the house tonight. Appearing a bit tentative to engage off the bell, Perron threw out some jabs to establish some distance early on. Pushing the pace and moving forward, Dan got Perron up against the cage early and started looking for the TD. Dan got David down once, but David got right back up. Getting back to the center of the ring, Perron lands on the top side after another TD attempt by McIver. Wrapping his arms around the neck in the mount, Perron muscled through and got the tap with a guillotine choke. Crazy submission of a game opponent, I think this was a great come back from loss win for Perron. Excited to see what’s next for both fighters.

I saw Louis Fisette early in the night and told him how I was excited to see this upcoming fight. Of course I didn’t mention at the time how I thought he was a bit of an underdog coming in against the more experienced Wilson. The only thing Louis said to me was how he just wanted to put on a good fight and didn’t really care about winning or losing. Well I guess that was the right attitude as he didn’t even leave enough time for a fan to say the word underdog before landing a brutally fast KO combo on Diego and securing his biggest W to date. In his own words immediately following the stoppage, who’s next?

The fans were excited to see the big name of Kendall Grove grace the Bear Mt Arena. Kendall came to the cage ready to rock and roll, the guy looked all business compared to his opponent, who seemed incredibly calm. I have to give Ariel credit, he took some big punches and knees throughout the first round and even answered with some strikes of his own landing. I gave the first round to Grove 10-9, he controlled the pace and his opponent, as well as landed some good clean damaging strikes. Ariel proved in the second why he deserved to be fighting the higher level of competition, landing a few clean, hard strikes, he showed he really took this fight seriously. Late in the round Kendall got the best of a clinch against the cage and dropped his opponent with a knee, he then followed it up with big knees and elbows on the mat forcing Brian Beauchamps to call the stoppage before the bell in the second round.

Although there wasn’t much time to see much for action, I think Dave Mazany was about to show us a little pain train. He was landing a couple big shots before the eye poke that shut down the main event. Sadly, the fight was stopped. Hopefully we all get to see a rematch on the Island, as this was Alessio’s first fight on native soil in quite some time.

The in house production was at the same high standard AFC has put on the last few shows. The crowd was awesome, no douchebags and pretty stellar attendance. No time wasted between fights made for a good flow. I had fun as always and this was one of if not the best cards I’ve seen on the Island.

FOTN- Tristan Connelly vs Myles Merola
KOTN- Louis Fisette over Diego Wilson
SOTN- David Perron over Dan McIver

  49. Cody Rempel says:

Mike Davis has fought under the Aggression banner, although it was prior to the merger… He defeated Matt Knysh at Aggression MMA 4 and Corey Knapp at Aggression MMA 5. Tyler Davis is the one that has not fought for Aggression. That may be what you meant but everyone keeps just saying Davis so I’m confused! lol

Thumb up 3 Thumb down 1

  50. Cody Rempel says:

Just out of curiosity, how much would someone have to pay for Mike Davis to fight Tyler Davis and who does everyone think wins that fight?
