Canadian Rumour Mill – October 29

By:

Well it’s Halloween time! That means girls dressing in sexy outfits and boys dressing up as monsters and weirdos and staring at the hot girls. Ah good times!

  • Are you GDUP? The mayor of ETown could fight on the November 23 AFC card against TNT Jackson. That’s right! If all goes well in Bellator and he avoids suspension, Ryan Ford will be doin’ work in the AFC cage.
  • Amateur MMA in Quebec is illegal now!  However, some shows pledge to go on regardless.
  • Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go Ninja Go! NO DON’T GO, NINJA! Rumours out of Tristar is that Nick “The Ninja” of Love” Denis hasn’t been training and is contemplating retirement from the sport! Say it ain’t so, Nick…
  • After moving to Edmonton to further his MMA career, Sean Quinn might actually be fighting this November.
  • Dan Miragliotta and two judges were not allowed to cross border to ref/judge SFS in Sarnia and the promoter still is on the hook for $1800 for them. Not sure why they couldn’t get in Canada… strange! However, the Ontario judges and refs handled the card perfectly. If the locals were able to handle the card, does the OAC still need to import officials?
  • Congrats to TJ Grant who just inked a new four fight deal with the UFC.
  • After suffering a broken arm from a car accident with over seven different fractures plus nerve damage, Curtis Demarce is now targeting a February 2013 return to the cage. The Demon is targeting the Featherweight division for his return. Great to hear that Curtis is healing up, he’s one hell of a fighter!
  • The November 9 WRECK show will probably be the last WRECK show.
  • 2-2 MMA fighter Mariusz Zastawny (0-1 boxing) is set to box Jamie Walton (5-4-2) on December 7th in Vancouver.
  • Hardeep Singh will return to action after a two year break to appear on Super Fight League 8 and battle it out with Tom McKenna (5-2)
  • Here’s something for our east coast friends: Gavin Tucker vs Jesse Gross should headline ECC in a great Featherweight matchup on December 6th. Also look for undefeated Mike Mallot to appear.

Bad match up for Tucker this early in his career.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 4 Thumb down 8

  3. Gunner says:

Jackson and Ford would be a fun fight but i would be highly skeptical if he would be cleared to fight only approx 20 days after his fight in Ontario, as even the smallest of marks usually gets about 30 days from the ontario commission that combined with the a Ford win would most likely be is key into the tournament one would think that it would be a bit of a gamble to take a fight outside of Bellator with that on the line

I am looking to match between 5 and 7 amateur fights. If you or anyone you know are interested in fighting please email me at georgeb@ualberta.ca or call me at (403)-352-2807. All routine medicals must be presented to me before November 20th, 2012 (We will pay for your CT scan as long as you present the receipt). Guys that train in their basements need not apply!

hopes Ford does well, I’m planning on going to AFC and haven’t seen him fight live in a while.
I hear there’s big changes on the horizon for Alberta Amateur MMA too.
I hope Demarce is healed up, always love seeing that guy fight, that would be a huge comeback. Gorny and Bhullar is a great match up. Who is Blabber fighting?

Trust me Gavin is not in over his head . Anyone that has ever trained with gavin knows that he is the real deal . He’s the hardest worker ive ever had the priviligde to be in a gym with . Hes a sponge and the fastest learner i know . Him and Mike Mallott although havent had alot of big named fights will be a force at 145 in years to come. Jesse gross is the exact type of match up gavin needs at this point. hes ready for it. Props for taking a big fight

Anyone know the reason Denis might be hanging the gloves up? He’s 2 fights into the best promotion in the world. Is he just not feeling the fighting life anymore?

  9. Franklin says:

Could it be possible Miragliotta an the judges weren’t allowed to enter because of work visa issues. Maybe they did not have paperwork saying they could enter Canada and earn money as a non-citizen…or someone recognized the known mma third man in the ring and knew what he was here for

Quinn is one of our new front desk girls at the Hayabusa Training Centre. She spends an unusually large time flirting with all the fighters though.

im on the hook for the $1800 for officials YES. after the last year or so working at various shows we never had to get officials LMO or visas because it was explained to me that it was up to them to claim it as working in this country. im obviously a dumbass for thinking this. But i have personally drove officials across the border and never been an issue

my own fault and it actually worked out. except i had to get them extra hotel rooms till the next day there flight was leaving. and a rental vehicle from port huron to detroit as i was way to busy to get them there. show was starting 3 hours later.

The rookie officials did an awesome job. i am not sure who did the judging but todd anderson, Ivan and graham bettes rocked as referees. hopefully we only need to bring in 1 high level referee from here on out and no judges that arent local. they have earned it and that show proved it.

But should i be on the hook as i didnt exactly need them as proven. it is the OAC that chooses them and hires them. I paid the $1000 to the referee and $400 each to the judges, no questions asked. $220 for two hotel rooms (dan and other shared) $200 for rental so they had a way there.

sorry for long post but curious what ppl opinions are

You mentioned the demon dropping down to 145lbs when he returns? Don’t you think he will be to big to make that cut? if so good for him he should do very well in that divison.
