145lbs – Eben Kaneshiro Vs Tim Tamaki
R1. Front kick to Tamaki but Tim pushes Kaneshiro to the cage. They tangle up and Kaneshiro has his back to the cage. Swing and a miss and Kaneshiro takes Tamaki down. Arm triangle by Kaneshiro and Tamaki taps out.

190lbs – Jason Gorny vs Sean Merkl
R1. Gorny pushes Merkl against the fence and pulls him down. Gorny in full mount but Merkl trying to bridge out. Gorny flattens his opponent and Gorny has an arm triangle. It looks like they are stopped and Gorny gives it up but the fight is not over. Gorny slaps the arm triangle on again and starts moving counterclockwise for the tap tap tap.

155lbs – Steve Lopez vs. Spencer Rohovie
Lopez jumps to a start coming out swinging. Rohovie diving for singles. Lopez pounding on Rohovie. Lopez in side control dominating Rohovie. Rohovie trying to shrimp out and gains his full guard. Lopez dropping elbows on Rohovie from guard. Lopez quite bigger than Rohovie and having his way with him. Lopez with back control now. Lopez drops a knee to the thigh. Rohovie spins to his back and then gets to his feet. Short lived as Lopez regains back control. Lopez landing elbows to Rohovie’s side while controlling his back. More hard forearms as Rohovie spins to back. Rohovie lands a kick to Lopez from his back – that’s his first offense. Lopez stacking up Rohovie and dropping rights. Rohovie attempts an arm bar.

R2. Rohovie comes out swinging hard and apparently a kick lands square on Lopez’ nuts. Replay shown and it looks like the front kick lands on his chin. Restart and Lopez immediately takes Rohovie down. Lopez landing rights. Lopez still on top trying to land elbows. Rohovie trying to fight off his back and lands a few punches. Lopez in side control but Rohovie regains half guard. Lopez still punching Rohovie on the ground with a minute and a half left. More elbows from the ex-UFCer. Full guard now and Rohovie can’t do much.

R3. Lopez drops Rohovie with a right and jumps into Rohovie’s guard. He stands and lets Rohovie back up. Front kick by Rohovie. The two swing and miss and Rohovie dives for a single then drops to his back. Ill advised. Lopez is comfortable staying in the full guard and dropping right hands and elbows. Rohovie throwing a few elbows as well. Rohovie with a high guard and kicks Lopez in the head with upkick (yes, you can kick grounded opponents in the head in Lethbridge) but no damage and Lopez continues throwing punches from guard. Rohovie with more elbows from his back but eating some too. still full guard. Rohovie throws five from his back. Not very effective. Round ends. I think Rohovie should be a 145er.

150lbs – Nathan Wilkins vs Maged Hammo
R1. Hammo with a nice uppercut and then Wilkins throws a kick but falls to the mat. While standing, Hammo lands some punches and a kick to the body. Wilkins gets up and takes Hammo down. Wilkins lands some GNP but Hammo gets up. Leg kick by Wilkins. Leg kick by Hammo by 2. Hammo is undersized here – he belongs at 135. The two slug it out against the cage. Punches upstairs and down by Hammo who lands a huge knee that drops Wilkins. Hammo follows up with GNP and it is all over!

170lbs – Ben Smith vs Brandt Dewsbery
R1. Dewsbery has length on his Extreme Couture opponent. He starts off using front kicks and jabs before Smith puts him on his back with a takedown. Good guard from Dewsbery and Smith tries to shake him loose. Triangle attempt by Dewsbery and Smith feeds him some lefts. Triangle on tight and Dewsbery throws punches on the trapped Smith. Dewsbery has toes in cage and ref slaps them out (I thought toes could be in cage? Someone clarify that for me) Smith gets up and drops Dewsbery and slips out of the Triangle. Smith on Dewsbery’s back punching under the arm pit and Dewsbery goes to his back with Smith in his half guard. Smith landing rights before Dewsbery ties him up. Dewsbery shrimps out and gets Smith’s back. Smith standing with a tick on his back looking for an RNC. Very good fight! Dewsbery lands an elbow and punches while on this back and goes for another RNC but Smith tucks that chin in. It looks tight as Smith loses mouthpiece but the round ends.

R2. Right hook clips Smith and Smith drops down for a takedown. Dewsbery somersaults and gets top position full mount with body lock. Smith reverses and is in Dewsbery’s guard. Solid guard by Dewsbery. Surprised ref does not stand them up as nothing is happening. There it is. Stand up. Uppercut and left by Dewsbery and Smith takes him down again. Another triangle by Dewsbery but Smith slips out. Nothing happening with Smith on top. Smith going for a top position smother victory and only time action happens is when Dewsbery attempts a sub off his back. Punches by Smith with 10 seconds left.

R3. Shades of High vs Mein here. Front kick by Dewsbery. Spinning back kick by Dewsbery. Takedown by Smith as he times a Dewsbery kick. Right hand from full guard by Smith. But Dewsbery gets to his feet. Smith immediately shoots but Dewsbery gets his back. Punches from Dewsbery but he is sliding off of Smith’s back. Nope. Dewsbery holds on to the back and lands four more punches as Smith can’t shake the back control. Dewsbery with a body triangle and punching Smith’s head. Two minutes left and the crowd is chanting “Brandt, Brandt”. Dewsbery responds by finally sinking the the RNC and Smith taps out. Impressive performance by one of Canada’s top Welterweights.

After the fight, Dewsbery says he thought Smith was out at the end of the first and can’t believe Smith came back strong in the second.

Amateur MMA
265lbs – Dan Amyotte vs Tyler Illubrun
R1. Jab by Illubrun and leg kick by Amyotte. Illubrun lands several punches and Amyotte ties him up against the cage. Amyotte bleeding from the shoulder. Illubrun teeing off on him now and tosses him to the canvas. Amyotte gets up and pushes Illubrun against the cage. Illubrun cutting up his opponent with strikes. Leg kick by Amyotte who throws a right and drops Illubrun. Illubrun gets up and lands some strikes, but Amyotte drops him again. Amyotte in side control but Illubrun rolls to belly and gets to his knees. Amyotte kneeing Illubrun but Illubrun rises. Illubrun with a right and Amyotte loving the cobra punch. Amyotte jumps for a punch but gets dropped with a jab. Amyotte shoots for a double and Illubrun slides to the mat. Tired big boys with a minute left. I can’t believe Amyotte is winning this right now. Kick by Illubrun and these two are exhausted. Illubrun winging punches and Amyotte almost too tired to fire back. Illubrun drops Amyotte with a right and throws a bunch more rights and ref stops the bout. Illubrun slumps to canvas as he is beat! These two may be too tired for the official decision :)

135lbs – Will Monzon vs Ian Odland
R1. Leg kick by Monzon but Odland throws two punches down the middle. Monzon shoots but Odland spins onto Monzon’s back. Rear Naked Choke check, sunk check and tapped check.

170lbs – Nick Plourde vs Josh Goodheart
R1. Strikes by Plourde. The two throwing hard and separate. Wild miss by Plourde. Goodheart puts him against the cage. Knees to Plourde. Now Plourde striking hard. Goodheart with a guillotine and drops to his back. Plourde escapes from guillotine but Goodheart reverses and has Plourde’s back. Goodheart trying for the RNC and flattens his opponent’s back. Tap tap tap.

155lbs – Matt Macloud vs Doug Westbrook
R1. They are slugging right away with Macloud giving the best of it. Macloud ends up on top of Westbrook but they return to feet. Macloud lands two kicks to the body. Westbrook goes for takedown and gets it. Macloud scrambles to feet but Westbrook takes back and has hooks in. Westbrook tenderizing Macloud’s body but Macloud is rolling everywhere trying to get the monkey off his back. Huge rights landing as Westbrook is fully mounted and this one is all over. Fast and Furious action and the (almost) 40 year old MMA virgin wins his debut fight.

155lbs – Mike Hansen vs Cornelius Krahn
R1. Krahn lands a left and right to start. Right pushes Krahn back. Leg kick by Hansen. Much crisper striking in this ammy bout than what we have seen. Nicer foot work too. The two tie up and Hansen lands some strikes. Krahn returns the favor. A couple jabs by Krahn. Knee by Krahn but a stiff left from Hansen. Hansen lands a few harder shots. Front kick by Krahn and then a nice combo. Leg kick right hook by Krahn. Knees from Krahn as he seems to have the edge right now. Some punches from Krahn and Hansen gets outta there. Right stumbles Hansen a bit. Spinning back fist misses and Hansen lands a couple. Krahn punches and Hansen retreats to the fence. Hansen tries a single but no dice. Krahn lands a few and drops Hansen with a right. Some hard ground and pound by Krahn and the ref is allowing it to go on. Finally ref steps in after Hansen can’t improve position and its a done deal.

205lbs- Teddy Ash vs Jeremy Rickaby
R1. Bigger Ash stalking Rickaby and then lands several blows to Rickaby who is covering up. Ash more confident in there lands a hard kick to body and Rickaby goes for a takedown. No dice. Right cross and then left jab stumbles Rickaby and he falls to the cage. Ash follows up with a punch but the ref has seen enough.

135lbs – Chad Isbister vs Ben Fehr
R1. Fehr lands a nice right jab and then another hard right and Isbister goes down stiff. This one is over before it started.

185lbs – David Schewaga vs Dustin Gould
R1. Gould with some nice strikes before Schewaga pushes him against the cage. Nice throw by Gould but Schewaga bounces right back up. 1-2 by Gould but then Schewaga kicks his legs out from under him as Gould went for high kick. Gould shoots but is stuffed by Schewaga. Stiff jabs by Schewaga force Gould to the mat looking for a leg. Schewaga feeding rights to Gould who has his back to the cage. Knees by Schewaga to the body of his grounded opponent and Ref Aparicio has seen enough and waves off the fight. Turns out Gould verbally tapped.
David Schewaga defeats Dustin Gould by Verbal Tapout in Round 1, 2:30

160lbs – Kyle Miller vs Tyler Larkin
Tyler Larkin comes out to the Killers! I am picking him to win. :)
R1. The two come out swinging before Larkin locks on a Guillotine. Miller moves to half and will get out of this one. Miller full mount now but still in the Guillotine and the two get to their feet. Swings by Miller and Larkin can just hold on to his opponent. Miller continues winging the right much to Larkin’s displeasure. Uppercut by Miller drops Larkin who works for a single. Larkin is very hurt and Miller keeps pouring it on. Larkin is stumbling around and does finally grab a single. Larkin actually gets the back of Miller. Larkin gets his hooks in and is working for the RNC. Black taps to a Rear Naked Choke for the incredible comeback win for Larkin.

170lbs – Travis Cardinal vs Mark Poitras
R1. Cardinal with a jab and the two engage quickly. Cardinal with a headlock on Poitras and throwing some rights. They break up. Poitras starts landing some kicks and using the left to connect. Knees by Poitras as they lock up against the cage. The two trade hockey style and the crowd roars. Cardinal landing more now but Poitras is back swinging. They tie up. Back to standing and trading and Poitras is getting the worst of it. Cardinal misses with a front kick but he resumes his relentless barrage. Poitras covering up and can’t keep pace with Cardinal. Too many punches to count and the ref stops the fight as an exhausted Poitras dropped his mouthpiece. Game on and Cardinal resumes the onslaught. Poitras is getting outslugged but digs deep to land a couple. Up against the cage and I would have stopped this but the bell rings and we will have round 2.

Poitras does not come out for the second round. Looks like Lee Mein may have threwn the towel in for his fighter.

155lbs – Elijah Richards vs Elvis Lyon
R1. Leg kick by Lyon and then he feeds Richards some uppercuts. Body kick by Lyon. The two lock up with Lyon throwing some rights. Richards lands some hooks and Lyon turns his back and drops to the canvas with Richards falling into his guard. Lyon is cut over the left eye. Lyon landing strikes from the bottom before Richards lands huge hammer fists. More hammer fists from Richards and the ref jumps in to stop the fight.

    Dewsberry’s fight was awesome and kudos on the most slickest of jits. Really want to see what’s next for him don’t think UFC or Strikeforce next but hopefully one of the bigger shows in Canada picks this kid up he is an amazing talent.

    Amyotte vs Illubrun was the funnest 5mins i’ve spent watching mma in the last 3 months. What a great tussle

    Sry Keith but I don’t think Dewsberry could handle Dickson…just my opinion…especially on the ground…not takin anything away from Brandt …but I think Dickson is on a higher level…we have yet to see the best Ryan Dickson in the cage… Just my opinion

    @Big Show – Ryan’s not my fighter…he’s a friend…he’s a product of Jeff Joslin…Ryan has a work ethic like no other…and it seemed to me he blew through St.Jean quite easily…all be it some say the stoppage was contaversial( mostly St.Jean and his ppl) it wouldn’t have gotten any better for him in that position if the ref didn’t stop it…I’ve seen Dewsberry’s fights and I’ve seen a lot of Ryan’s fights…and like I said IMO…however you wanna take that…Ryan would win that fight…either way…it’s also a fight I’d like to see happen…that’s all

    Do you forget Lima beat ford, Lima has already been fighting the top tier guys in Bellator while Ford is well look at the upcoming fight,,,, fighting guys to ensure he gets the chance to eventually fight the top guys… Not sure how your theory of fight lima not ford comes about?

    Regardless there is still a lot of 170’ers in Canada that would definatly give Dewsberry one hell of a rough night

    For the first time ever. I am going to agree with BTP. I have watched Dewsberry a couple of times and Dickson a couple of money would be on Dickson 100%…He has finished every fight so far..Dickson finished St. Jean without breaking a sweat! regardless it would be a great fight.

    I am a bit baffled that so many want to see this fight,,,,,, to me Dickson is a huge step back for Dewsberry he has been climbing the ranks taking on tougher and tougher fighers. Not saying Dickson is not tough or possibly a future stud but come on the guy has fought no bodies and is only 4-0 but those 4 wins are against guys that are 2-3, 1-1, 2-3, 1-2

    Dewsberry should be fighting someone that on paper and skill are a challenge and will increase his stock like mentioned above a Dhiego Lima or Advin Omic or Nathan Gunn or Matt McGrath or Derrick Medler

    On paper and based on caliber of opponents the Dewsberry vs Dickson is a total plus for Dickson and a waste of a fight for dewsberry and what he is building

    Every fight is like a math equation with multiple ways for the end result, some take you fucking pages to solve the problem 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1-8=2 other methods are as simple as 1+1=2 regardless you get the answer

    so are you saying that because Mcgrath finished Khatib in the first but yet Dewsberry & Gunn went to a decison with him that Mcgrath would kill Gunn or Dewsberry ?? how fast and how a fight ends has no regard on the next as every fight is different and has different variables based on each competitor.

    That being said regardless of how or who he finished he still does not benefit Dewsberyy one bit with a win as he has only 4 fights and when you look at the guys he beat there records are all 5 or less fights and below .500 except for a guy 1-1

    again not saying dickson is not a tough guy but he just has no benefit to dewberry excpet to guys that are close to dickson and really to be honest just want this fight cause they know it is all plus for Dickson

    Dickson needs a step up and Dewsbery needs a step up. Dickson is too low on the ladder for Dewsbery, at this time. Dewsbery just beat a 4-0 Dickson-like guy.

    A more appropriate fight would be Dickson vs the winner of Laprise/Robinson.

    For Dewsbery, how about Ryan Machan or Ryan Ford at Aggression in Edmonton?

    Agree with you Keith except for the Ford thing as i he is fighting in Nov for Bellator.

    I would have liked to see Bellator put Dickson vs Laprise on that card

    or Bellator have Mcgrath or Gunn fight Laprise as both are coming off a loss for the promotion and would be a good way for Laprise to take a step up in competiton

    There are lots of good fights for dewsberry to take a step like mentioned above… Medler, Omic, Gunn, Machan, Mcgrath
